Blimey, trying to stir a reaction there I reckon..? Hope Whittlesey dont bite!
IMO:
He's taken a nearly new team to a top 3 or 4 finish with Hampton in the Prem and has some excellent contacts locally (so I understand), so I'd say he's got a better chance than many of doing well at Whittlesey?
Did either of you 2 get approached or apply then? I doubt it!
It's also irrelevant if others turned it down, as I'm sure Whittlesey had a wish list beyond what they were ever going to get? Which is to be expected from a club wanting to progress.
All that matters is who got it and the support they get - I for one, really hope he does well..

i was not bringing into question his ability as a manager,as i have played for him ,just saying other people turned it down ,i hope he does very well there he is a great bloke and knows football. As for progression i think whittlesey as a club should have done this progression thing 30 years ago ,but never have ,the size of the town and more importantly the players that have been produced there they should at least be playing in the jewson or ucl ,but club politics and other factors have held them back ,i for one also know if it was not for a certain Mr T Bass they would have gone the way of perkins, ortonians, and many others

Big difference in saying 'others turned it down' and 'he only got it because others turned it down' mate....
of course others turned it down as I'm sure Whittlesey approached many top managers both past and present, not all could have, or would have accepted the role, so I'd say they got their man at the level they are currently?
Like you, I hope he does really well and I agree as a club they could go a lot higher, hope they do.

Sorry W'sey hammer? your "sources" got that one wrong bud -Spot on with your comments BOTN - we had a wish list of three we would have liked to have interviewed, Paul was the 1st we did see, and I would say that after the interview we were very impressed by what he had to say and it was going to have taken something special to have beaten him - however out of respect for the other two guys we still intended to listen to what they had to offer - unfortunately for a number of reasons that proved difficult to arrange and became protracted and out of respect for Paul, we didnt want to mess him about, we dont work like that.
Ultimately Paul was the 1st we offered the post to and we are delighted he has accepted, suggest you change your mole mate!
Have to say that Bassy is a diamond, and the club would be a much poorer place without him and his involvement , but fold, nah that ain't likely gonna happen either :whs:
- as for the sleeping giant, paper comments like that don't help anyones cause - I certainly dont see ourselves as that - just happy to continue to enjoy my football with my mates and family at my home town club - and do whatever I can to take the club forwards - is that so wrong?:)

as i dont have a mole and heard it from some well known people in local football ,1 that is connect to whittlesey united at present,as for Mr Bass if you read my comments i said they would have gone the way of perkins and ortonians, not will but that was sometime ago when whittlesy as a town were supporting to manyclubs united and i think the other was Whittlesey red star and then there is coates nearby ,put the clubs under a lot of pressure so i believe,as which happend in stamford, with bells, imps, newage, blackstones, rhyal, and stamford which is a sad reflection on local football in certain areas at present.

I wish paul every success in making whittlesey a dominant local force locally, but we all know for them to progress requires a hell of a lot of work and financial backing and also the players, i feel now is the time to do it as the peterborough prem is not at the standard the league was say 5 years ago.good luck paul.

Sleeping Giant, never.Anyone who knows their local football will always have hated to play against Whittlesey.Tough to beat wether it be Saturday afternoons or a Sunday morning and no matter what team from the Whittlesey area.In my opinion looking from the outside the Whittlesey 1st team has just wanted tweaking, not a lot wrong with it,inconsistent yes, but not a lot wrong. The reserves have a lot of youngsters and are doing very well so the future looks very good for the whole squad.

what are we actually meaning by the term giant, this get banded about a lot in football and not just at our level, newcastle, leeds, mancity, have all been given the tag ,but at that level as at ours what has there success actually been not much,i would but whittlesey into this catagory 1 prem title in there history, and as for Mr flynn who i have great respect for as a player and also an excellent offical if the youngsters are going to progress and forfill there potential they will have to leave Whittlesey as numerous players had to in the past ,andy lodge, darren edey, mark hipwell, robin hailstone, will gale, john wright, wayne morris, bill sheperson, graham speechley, kevin hudson all left to play high level football ,ave to admit had a bit of help with the older players mentioned as i dont know half of them but was assured they are all held in very high esteem at the clubs they played for outside of whittlesey.

it seems to be only the press that use that term not the new guy or the club themselves? best ignored at it's just headline grabbing?
