Whittlesey Reserves finally clinched the Comination division 1 title last night with an 11:4 win away at Oundle - a fantastic run of 4 wins in 11 days have finally seen the lads land our number one target this year, well done boys
Thanks to Ben, in his first season as manager, great achievement mate. Gonna miss it!
And to the best signing I ever made, Wayne Gale, our chairman who has done a fantastic job for the whole club this season, and with much more to come.
Finally special mention to Kenny and his Perkins lads, who pushed us so hard - good luck to you mate in whatever you decide to do, you are always welcome at Whittlesey for a beer, don't be a stranger.
Now we can enjoy Thursday night's cup final win or lose gonna be a great week-end, party on boys!!!!!!:pty:

Bluestar, Barrel and all at Whittlesey, congratulations to you all. I said you were the best team throughout the season and therefore deserved the title, and i stand by that. You have all put so much effort in, and you are now rightly collecting your just rewards. Now you can go with confidence and win your last cup final (GOOD LUCK FOR THURSDAY)
Thank you for you kind words, i hope to managing again next year, although my side (hopefully) will not be playing in the combination league. I am pleased for my lads, they have wrorked so hard to give you a run for your money, they deserve their runners up medals in our last season.
I will never be a stranger where beer is concerned!!!
Did you get the trophy last night? If not will it be there on Saturday?
And finally, without us, you will be 6 points better off next season!!!!!!!!!!!

Nah Kenny - trophy wasnt presented last night so hopefully we will pick it up after our game Saturday - should be a good day.
As you know Ben, unfortunately due to work commitments, will be stepping down after the game so hopefully we will have a day/night to remember.
Already planning for next season, and taking nothing for granted - so will be scrapping for every point with or without Perkins in the league:)
Well done boys, role on saturday hey?
Congratulations to all connected with the team!

Thanks guys - much appreciated
Langtoft, looking forwards to it mate - lets hope the weather holds should be one hell of a day
Christ Mick would a draw have won it for you last night because I bet until that 11th goal went in you were waiting anxiously for that final whistle!!
You must have scored 50 goals in the last month haven't you?
Well done to you all, it's never nice having about ten games in hand of everybody and having to fit them in so quickly but you seem to have managed it with ease, congratulations.

Much appreciated Spec -I dont know about 50 goals but I must have aged another 50 years in the last two months !!!
Think getting rid of the monkey on our backs that was this unbeaten tag thing probably turned it for us - the four defeats in five games against Perkins, twice, Deeping and Chatteris (county cup) could have been the end of the season but fair play to the lads, they listened and have responded brilliantly
Like us or hate us, nobody can take it away that after the cup final on Friday 25th we have played four in the league, including the Saturday and Monday after the Friday cup final, won all four scoring 37 goals for with 6 against - not bad, but what makes me proudest of all is that with the exception of two 1st team players for the Monday night game we have done it with the same reserve squad who got us where we are -and I know all that old tosh about new rules etc, but I am "old school" and don't go in for that old nonsense. Treat the lads as you would like to be treated, works for me!
Dont know if you are about Saturday Spec, but you would be more than welcome to a pint or two after the game, my treat mate....
fantastic result again for us ... now we can relax and enjoy our final games. Hopefully the high from last nights win can continue and show in our performance tomorrow night when we bring home our 3rd trophy from Cambridge!!!:dncr
After a night of reflection, I am absolutely chuffed to bits that we've finally done it and got the league title. When we sat down at the start of the season and started to add one or two players to an already good side, the league title became our aim and i'm delighted we've achieved that objective.
Last night marked an extremely proud moment for me and i am thrilled to bits for the players who have simply been immense over the course of this season. They are a credit to themselves, their families, WUFC and the town in general and should all be proud as punch this morning for their achievements this term. We have played 33 games this season and still have two maybe three to go, including a Cambs County Cup Final at Cambridge City tomorrow vs Cambridge University Press Reserves. When you consider we have reached three cup finals this season as well winning the league it emphasises what a mammoth effort its been from the players.
We have played 14 games in the space of 6 weeks, went unbeaten for 7 months and despite a patch in mid April when we lost 4 out of 5 and people began to have a pop form certain quarters (you know who you are) we have responded brilliantly winning the PFA Junior Cup and winning the last four league games scoring 37 goals in the process. The Cup win versus Deeping Sports seemed to give the lads that extra bit of confidence and impetus that kicked them into gear again and saw us come through the final part of the season.
I have been lucky enough throughout this season to have 16 quality players available week in week out and although it's provided me with many headaches, over the last 6 weeks we've used it to our advantage using the whole squad to its full potential and every single player has responded with quality performances everytime they've been called upon.
We can now look forward to Thursday evening and enjoy the occasion before having one hell of a party Saturday to celebrate the season.
I would also like to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart for the magnificent support the club have provided over the season's course particularly our fanatstic Chairman, Wayne Gale who off the field as moved the club so far forward in just a short space of time and in particular my assistant's of Mick Burch and Colin Phillips, without those two guys support we wouldn't have acheived so much - thanks chaps. Special credit to Mick Burch, i'm sure everyone knows Mick in local football and last night was a fitting trubute to the man himself, 4 of the lads out their last night have played for Mick since their early teens and 4 others were signed by him three years ago at the age of 15 years old.
Special thanks also to Kenny Venters and his Perkins team for pushing us all the way and doing all they could to make the last few weeks of the season as nervy as they could have made it for us. A side who will be missed by all next season and for season's to come.
Lastly I would like to dedicate the league title win to Graeme 'Robbo' Robinson our captain from last season who left us in tragic circumstances last summer, he would have loved to have been part of the season we have had and would have revelled in it. I toasted a drink to his memory last night as I had a beer or two last night after the victory. It wil be nice to see as many people down the Manor for his memorial tournament on 26 July.
As Mick previously mentioned, I will step down as manager after our final match of the season due to increased work commitments, it's a great shame for me on a personal level that i can't take the side on again and help to develop another young crop of Whittlesey lads to their full potential but work must come first.
For now i'm just going to celebrate with all the lads what has been a magnificent season, win or lose tomorrow evening.
Regards, Barrel
Well done Whittlesey thoroughly deserved.

Says it all Barrell, that's a proper team!
Mick will do my best to come and have a beer with you, thanks very much for the offer.

Mick, don't know about you aging that much, but you can still chuck the lagers down your throat as if you were a teenager!!
I agree, 'Old school' is best!
What time is kick off on Saturday?
Spec - don't know if you have seen them play this season, but Whittlesey reserves have been excellent. They work hard for each other, and play some great football and are worthy champions. I think Hibbo has scored 66? goals, an amazing achievement by any player, at any level, but they have definetely not been a one man team.
Ben, Mick and their team deserve all the success they are achieving!
Well done to Whittlesey Res. Excellent achievement, especially having the hurrendous schedule of games you've had over the past few weeks. Must have been great commitment from everyone, particularly with all the mid-week games where people might have work/family commitments.
Good luck in tomorrow night's final flying the Peterborough flag
If you haven't seen them already there are some great photos of your final with Deeping on the Nene Digital website

Hyppia - thanks for the kind words mate, you could have warned me that there wasnt a health warning on the Nene Digital website- the pictures of Hibbo and the boys in full flight are enough to curdle milk and make young children have nightmares.:yipes:
Barrel -you are from Whittlesey and should, if some of our colleagues in the league are to be believed have six fingers on each hand, that being the case you should be able to count to 39 without too much difficulty which is the actual number of games this season - so far, but know where you are coming from cos it feels like 33 of them were in the last two months!!
Cant wait to hear the latest jingle the boy comes up with to celebrate this one!!!:fdl:
Kenny, just how long have you been out of management? Kick off is 15:00 mate, join me earleir for an aperitif if you like :alc:

CONGRATULATIONS - Well done to all the lads at whittlesey, a fantastic achievement to have done what you have so far. Good luck in your final. As spec says it shows you what a club can achieve when hard work is put in on n off the field.:clap::clap::clap::clap:
