View Full Version : The Weekend That Counts

After the predictable results of yesterday (well except Moulton & Crowland's!) this Saturday could prove pivotal.
Its advantage Hotpoint really - victory over Moulton with us achieving anything other than a win and it's their title with just the gimmee at Wimblington to finish with.
Will be happy just to still have it in our hands after what I am expecting will be as tough a game as ever against PSL
Would rather be in your position Tommy, fate in your own hands and all that, still sure of another twist yet before the final game, possibly against both Hotpoint and Ortonians, good stuff though !!

It's in your favour this week though Speck as only you can all but win it - whatever happens we will need to get something from at least 1 of our last 2 games.
Without their pathetic bed-ridden manager last night I understand the boys did pretty good in a narrow 1-0 defeat against a Cambridge United side containing 4 first team players last night.
That follows Mark Baines decent game for Lincoln City reserves against Sheffield United in the Pontins League Monday - he certainly did not look out of place during his 30 minute run out.
Are you poorly then ole chap ?

Lost half a stone in 24 hours so you can guess some of the symptoms and it is not all bad news!
Managed 1 hour out of my bed in last 36 - not at work but computer fingers working ok.
It would appear you got to the Oundle boys then Spec - no comment or team from them in the paper - you really have picked up the nasty baton from me with a vengence!
Any prediction from you for this weekend - I will go with us both get jittery and drawing - any response?
Not going to disagree with that at all apart from the jittery bit, both up against good sides on their day.
Surprised about the Oundle reaction, had a good chat with Seb after the game and understood why he pinned stuff on the dressing room wall to try and motivate his players and we had a good laugh about it, they even supplied me with an ice bucket (full as well) so I stayed till late and made sure I used it all !! He was very complimentary about our football we played and I think he is more upset with his players attitude and commitment than he is with us although I think he took exception to the fact that I f***** off for 20 minutes and watched the grand national because we were in total control of the game. Got a lot of time for Seb, I think his passion and commitment is spot on just needs to transfer some of it to his players though.

Don't like to be controversial Spec as you know, but I think it is the type of player you sign. There are a number of clubs in our league who like to sign the "name" players which is understandable, but don't think through how they will fit into their side or if they have the temprement to see you through the bad days and when you need to roll your sleeves up.
How many clubs are currently coveting for example Eddie Patten, Lee Davison, Gavin Mcpartlin or Chris Kaye for next year - I am not sure, but if they good enough for consistently the best team over the past 3 years, they should be good enough for anyone?
Naturally I think that all my side (except Lee Ayres - and Atty who's gone a bit now!) would be a real asset to any premier side with title aspirations
Don't you think it's down to the manager to sort that out as soon as an 'incident' occurs, we all take chances on players who have a reputation for being 'one man teams'. Every player gets one chance with me after that it's goodbye irrespective of the fact that they might be the best player around, we all know the influence one bad apple can have on a team.
I would say that a lot of clubs are looking at your un-employed right now in fact I know of at least 4 !!

Just like to point out that my comment about Lee Ayres was made in jest and that I am very grateful for his contribution towards my trophy laden tenure at Ortonians.
63 goals in 109 appearances speaks for itself, though most have been tap ins. I found him lost and wondering wearily about a foreign land (Whittlesey) without form and reputation 3 years ago and have turned him a much sought after predator who I sincerley hope will turn Perkins into a top half team next year.
Look foward to seeing him on the score sheet Saturday as we wrestle manfully with our illustrious city neighbours for the coveted title and if lady lucks smiles gladly upon us, Lee will rightfully take his place in the pantheon of legendary status.
I hope this helps to clear up any misunderstanding on a previous post (Atty has gone though!)
thanks tommy! 2pm sat then, got a cushion 4 me to sit on then?

No such thing as bad publicity Atty - getting you back has been a real bonus mate - heard you played very well against Cambridge Tuesday night - told you that you would get a lot of pitch time despite the great form of Chris Kaye & Phil Groves - you have and you will continue to do so.
Speaking of which is was great to see your old mucker Darcy get a run out last week - wonder if he has played enough games for a medal?
would love to play every game though, gettin on a bit now and want to play as much as i can before i completely fall to bits!and yes phil and chris are both quality! maybe darce and i ought to start our own team up,then we might get a game?

Well done to Hotpoint - with just the "gimmee" against Wimblington to come it looks like they will be posting a 73 point target (which we won the league with 2 years ago). Understand from variety of opinions I have had from observers of the game that Hotpoint were deserved if a little nervous winners.
Moulton nearly followed the script hitting the woodwork late on, and no doubt will be "right up" for what I hope will be the decisive game on April 30th.
Before then we have the little matter of the return with PSL who did follow the script yesterday with an outstanding display before conceding a late winner. They were 2 goals better than us first half, though we in turn were probably 3 goals better than them in the 2nd so 1-0 for me was about right. (81st minute winner was a little early for us!)
Think the late switch of venue after the no show of the groundsman at PSL unsettled us a bit but fair play to PSL. You just wonder what on earth they are doing 13th in the league with the players they have got - another side who are really up for games with us but don't do it week in week out - could be contenders if they resolve that.
You are up and about early Tommy, studying the video from yesterday ? Just about deserved the result a good solid performance against a bloody good side still and glad not to have to be going to their place for the final game of the season and having to win !!
Evergreen Leftly does it again, a cracking game spoilt by would you believe nine (9) bookings, we have never had any history with Moulton for that sort of thing and the game was nothing like 9 bookings would suggest, thought we would be there till midnight.

Understand that Cookey & Skeggy both made appearances yesterday - sods law dictates that they will probably be as close as they can be to full strength by the time we play them. That's been the way of it for us - would love to have had some of the good fortune at this time of year that Whittlesey for example had last year (like Parson Drove turning up with 10 men & Stamford Bells playing their linesman in goal for the last game!)
Still at least our stiffs beat Hotpoint yesterday, a first win for Mccarthy Fogg (did you ring the result in foggy?) soured by 112 year old Andy Cowling being sent off after starting a mass brawl!
You can chill out now Spec - just happy to still have it in our hands - not really sure who are favourites now?

Good game saturday at Hotpoint although not too many clear cut chances to score, with a great save from Hotpoint's keeper to deny cookey from 5 yards with the score at 0-0 which was the key moment of the game .Also Hotpoint should probably had a penalty which wasn't given and as for nine bookings in my opinoin there wasn't a bad tackle all game .
Looking forward to the Ortonions game with some important players coming back from injury and it's great to see jonny Ball back in the team after nearly 5 months out and alot of rumours circulating about players coming to Moulton next year, and before any of you up and coming superstars at Pinchbeck thinking we're on about your players i haven't heard of one that we're intrested in ! And i can't wait till next season

Well I know of at least 3 Harrox that you have been interested in. And all of them are committing themselves to Pinchbeck.
We are all looking forward to next season as well. The club has made progress this season, and with all players committing themselves again next season, we are looking to continue that progress.
All the young lads have another season under their belt now, and this will help them.
All the best for the remainder of the season, and we look forward to doing battle with you again next year. :gun:
Have to agree with you HARROX F C, thought it was a good well thought gameon saturday.. But 9 bookings, I've never seen anything like it, I think if there'd been a foul throw it'd have been a booking. I realize it's near the end of the season, do ref's have to get a certain number of bookings in to get a bonus or something?!

if the ref was the paper ref then it would of been mr gale, who i think tends to be a very good referee at this level. im sure that after looking back on the bookings that some must of been justified even if only for opening up and yaping back

Stalwart i personally hope that you do keep your good players because the last couple of seasons games between Moulton & Pinchbeck have been disapointing, it's great to win 4-0 if it was a tough match but when the game is too easy it's slightly more of a Spalding Sunday League game!
Although this seasons games have been closer i don't think they would of been if Moulton was playing as they was last year. But it makes it more intresting next season, and that can only be a good thing for both sides. We'll be seeing you next year for another battle :duel:

maybe get 6th from bottom nx season eh pinchbeck
sad when u think u have had a great season when finishing 4th bottom!
the only reason u boys r still in the prem is becoz u got lucky when u shld av been religated, cos if u did go down i know 4 sure u will stay there until ur young team b cum an old one
That is rich from the biggest under achievers for the last two seasons perhaps if you had a manager you might do better :pty:
you may laugh and joke but this year as a club Pinchbeck have been better than they have been for along time with the reserves winning thier league on their first year back and the first team improving on last years postion im sure all teams aim is to be higher in the league than the previous year and Pinchbeck have achieved this. Hopefully in years to come we will bring back the success the club had in the late 80's early 90's when they was a team to be reckoned with
how refreshing to have an honest opinion rather than a post thats just slagging off! the other pinchbeck representatives on this site could learn a lot from you!
I have said before and I will say it again. Tony Wells has done an excellent job at Pinchbeck United. To have kept the young players together is beginning to show it's rewards. 30 points form 30 games is their best haul in four years and having secured just 18 points in the previous 60 games (6 & 12 respectively) is proof that they are now moving in the right decision. They have had some very good results this season with victories over the likes of Whittlesey United and Parson Drove, to name but two and although they may not win it next term I for one expect them to continue their improvement.

well carrot :blh: the future looks bright yeah
psl might under have achieved but u will be under them come the end of this season :bst:
Carefree...... Looking back at the posts, I don't think anyone from Pinchbeck has mentioned that they have had a great season. They have said that they have progressed which is a bit different.
I find it a bit sad when you have to resort to slagging another club off just because you have lost a game.
Whats happened to the good ol' days when you just shake hands and accept defeat graciously.
I am sure many other team managers would agree with this. They have gone from being whipping boys to a team who can at least now give any team a good game.
Also, on a different note, good luck to Hotpoint in their quest for the League title. I hope you do it, as I have seen you play a few times this season, and you are by far the best footballing team in the league.
hcore, you must be related to Spec??!! Every time you make a post you refer to how fantastic Hotpoint are

My bad hcore, thought you were someone else. I'll retract my foot from my mouth!! Pinchbeck and Carefree can now continue their tennis match, sorry for the interruption

Just to ensure that everyone in our Peterborough South Supporters Club gets to the game, just want to confirm that our game AT PSL takes place TUESDAY night at 6.30 and not Wednesday as on the PDFL site or in the ET
