View Full Version : what a lovely day

i just thought i would like 2 let everyone know that its been a nice day today .... not only did our netherton res team narrowly win 5-4 against a good hampton outfit today , but i have to say it was then backed up buy a marvelous win away at FC bauer .
now i hear u all say well 6-3 , sounds a fairly tight game, loosin 3-1 then to winn 6-3 sounds like it swung both ways , but what i like most about this is that there were only 5 1st team players in the side . the side was mostly made out of our res players ( 7 players i think ) . what a brilliant result for a netherton res team beatin a team aiming for the tottenham spot , wishin and hopin for that top 3/4 slot .

thanks to hampton once again was a great game ,they must be a bit miffed to not get at least a point...maybe we were slightly lucky but we battled hard for a scratch side . i really think this div 2 league will be quite interestin .

Back to the football.....

Emap/Bauer... someone made a comment on here a few weeks ago that "everyone hates us" "everyone wants us to fail" etc... (paraphrased). I think that is not true, I just think that people are a bit fed up of hearing you all big yourselves up so much.

You remind me very much of the Netherton side of 5/6 years ago. very well organised, and together as a side. Which is to be applauded and I hope it continues. But lads, the big difference is that Netherton always played their chances down. We continue to do so. I doubt very much that any Netherotn player has ever been on here, offering wagers , Boasting about great results pre season and who we've signed, bragging about what we're going to do, or win etc. (we leave that to shakey and his endless persuit of the Northants holy grail...lol ;0))

Todays performance against one of the weakest Netherton sides ever fielded suggests that you have a long long way to go. You give away to many free kicks (/penalties), don't look after the ball well enough and are collectively not fit enough. If I was foggy I would have snapped your hand off at the wager offered the other week, beacuse I doubt very much that you will beat any of the big 3 (or 4?!?) this year.

But thats not to knock you, what you have achieved at the club is great, and the commitment you show is refreshing to see. The Sunday prem needs clubs like bauer. I would just suggest that you continue to work hard in training and let your football do the talking a little bit more.

MAtt

P.s the above is only my oppinion ;0)

what are you chatting about Matt? We never 'bigged ourselves up' or any
thing like that, in fact we went on record as saying our goal this term is strive to avoid a bottom 3 finish and then progress from there, hardly bigging us up really is it mate?
The wager offered to Foggy was one between mates as a bit of banter, nothing more, dont see why it bothers you to be honest?

Seriously though, we gifted you 4 goals yesterday and gifted you the points which was solely down to individual errors from mainly one of our lads who played the worst we've seen for some time, I feel for him as he cost us the game when 3-1 up and outplaying you at the time, fair play to your lads who just never gave up....
3 pens and countless yellows says it all really as it wasn't that sort of game!
Good turnout back at the Windmill - cheers lads.

Was just putting Matt right about us bigging ourselves up as we dont like being mis-quoted to be fair, I think a few lads on here view our club as to big for our boots etc just cause I have an opinion on here and enjoy the banter, we know we're small fry to the big guns in the Prem but I reckon we'll pick up points from at least one of them, gotta be positive I suppose!!

22-09-2008, 15:01
Nothing to do with fitness Matt, we were just poor and surrendered our lead too easily; the teams in this league only need half a chance and three penalties are more than half a chance! The other goals came from us pressing and leaving space that your able strikers could exploit. Still don't remember us bigging ourselves up? I big myself up sometimes, but I am good looking so am well within my right!

mattsedd
22-09-2008, 15:10
lol Sneeks ... I knew I'd get a bite but thought it might take longer than that! Sean, you should change your on screen name to "The Nibbler" and audition for the next batman movie!

Every penalty was definatly a penalty and fair play to reg for keep giving them, as there is nothing more frustrating than a ref who gives one and then wont give a second (or third ) no matter how blatant!

As for outplaying us?!?!?! come on lets be serious. We were camped in your half for the whole game apart from the 3 goals you scored, where we were asleep and defended poorly. But hey, thats what happens when you are forced to start 6 reserve players. you guys took your chances well , and battled hard, determined to hold on to the lead, but were never "outplaying" us.

Netherton were the only team doing intricate passing, and our pace and skill was too much for you to handle, which was why you kept fouling us and why the yellow cards were correctly handed out.

Like I said battled hard, great team spirit and long may it continue...
Its good to hear you talking about avoiding relegation as that should be exactly your aim for the year. Should be everyones. And anything else is a bonus.

Raph. you are hot. no doubt.

Matt
the above is just my oppinion

p.s scouts were there to watch your "england captain" . Think they left disappointed. He's a tidy enough player on the ball but didn't really have much influence on the game

mattsedd
22-09-2008, 15:11
and I do think it was everything to do with fitness. Second half you were knackered and we finished you off. lack of fitness is why teams give away fouls late in the game and conceed. That was your problem yesterday. And a problem that you can easily rectify with training. Which I am sure you will do.

I think his (Fernands) hair put them off hahaha, he did have your right wingers pants down toward the end though with a double megs, gave me at least 1 thing to smile about!!
And how is me responding to you quoting us, constituted as a 'nibble/bite'? if you're quoting our club and it's not something we said, then of course I'm gonna put you right as we dont want sh*t spread about our club..... I'm pretty sure if we started posting stuff about Netherton that wasn't true you'd be one of the 1st online setting us right (and rightly so)?
If it's just personal banter, al-la foggy and myself then 'nibbles' could be had, but mis-quoting us to get a response and then calling it, is a poor effort Matt as any fool can do that....

BOTN this was your prediction for the season.

1. JNE ... sorry I mean 252
2. Westwood
3. Netherton
4. FC Bauer
5. Limetree
6. Fratelli
7. New Shoes
8. Powerleague
9. Royal Mail

Fratteli's are a very good side. I would suggest that predicting yourself at 4th is hardly insisting all along that you are just out to avoid relegation.

This was the "bigging yourself up" that I refered to , and that you have now nibbled several times at. And by the looks of it starting to get irate! (sh!t stirring about your club?!?!?!? , posting stuff that wasn't true???!?! what are you? 9 years old or something? chill out man!!)

Raph....Gav will be offended! lol./ you should give sean lessons on how to smile and laugh and not get wound up by a comment on a website!

my oppinion sean, (as it said in my disclaimer ) is that you've been a bit big for your boots, and perhaps that is an unfair representation of the lads in the team who are all legends. but nevertheless it is the impression that is being given to " a million hits per month"

Anyway, keep working hard, you have a long way to go, but my advise remains the same. Lay a little lower and people will be impressed when you succeed. Shout about it all...people will just smerk if it goes wrong.

Still do not think they will beat any of the big 4 but they will stay up and hopefully will progress! Matt do not be quick to put sides down as remember we have all been there! As for the holy grail - surely that is NEVERRON (sorry netherton) and the league! Anyone can win the cups but it is consistency from good teams that wins the league!! - Look at the scouse scum!!

but yes botn loosin to our reserve team must be demorilizin at little bit for ur side . but i suppose it gives roland a selection headache when a few players return .

jne i dont think we have any goals this season . ur right in sayin the league shows consistant form and with us never winnin it suppose it would be nice to win .... but winnin any of the 3 cups on offer would be nice and would be seen as a gd season .

as for our reserves in div 2 , were happy to just compete amongst some crackin sides . most of who came on here 2 months ago sayin they will go undefeated . i really cant see any team goin undefeated but may be wrong .

thank you raph for makin me bray number 1 . i shall let the others know that i have at least 1 fan . . .

Quite an interested observer on this as I was on the bench for most of the game for Bauer, and looking at both the Seddons comments I would suggest two things. Firstly, M Seddon should have a candid look at his contribution to the game, as Netherton were 2-1 down when he left the proceedings in the first half. Exit Mr Seddon, and Netherton score 5 to go on and win the game 6-3!
Secondly, I doubt we will ever concede three penalties in one game again, even if they were stone wallers, which would have given a different complexion on the game so give us a bit of a break. At 3-1 down you were not so cocky/patronising!

LOL you're killing me! Look ... I know I'm ****! I've said it enough times! Yes I came off injured and yes things got worse and then got better! I never claimed to have been the main man! But back to my main points...
1) I've already conceeded that perhaps I shouldn't have tarnished the club by one mans bullish comments, but Im only saying what everyone else is thinking ! LOL
2) the point about the holy Grail was that shaky public states year after year that he wants to win it, and so people always have a little smile when they don't. Nothingnpersonal, just the way it is as netherton and June/252 always get on well on and off thenpitch. I still think my point is correct, lay low, and everyone will be pleased firbyou if and when you do well.

Netherton have spent years being under rated, but we never ever come
Out and say we go ha win this or our aim is that ... Bla bla bla.

3) netherons Grail? The league? Dont be ridiculous. We're not good enough. 252 all the way.

4)im not meaning To
Put bauer down. The first thing I said was that they remind me
Of netherton from a few years back. That's aboutbas big a compliment as I can give. I just think they should quietly get on with things, not rise
To bait so quickly and keep the hard work
Ethic that they clearly have. I was just putting into question the assertion that they wager that they'll beat one of the top teams.

.....and if they do..... I wanna feel
Like congratulating them, not think to myself "bloody he'll, seans been going on about itball flipping year, we'll never hear the end of it now!"

Fratellis is a great testbas theybare an excellent side. Should be enjoyable game.

Now does anyone else want to tell me that I'm ****? Or can I go and polish my 2 northamts cup winners medals, my 2 pfa winners medals and my Hereward cup winners medal? Then I'll thank the lord that daddy was s the manager and pray that I lose some
Weight and grow some hair back.

scouse mouse ... dont bring my name into it when u say lookin at the seddons comments but then none of ur suggestions are about me!

cocky / patronising .never once has a netherton team been like that . i remeber the games when we won 12 , 13 nils and never once took the mick out of anyone . gracious in defeat and gracious in victory is the way to be .... most of the time

i think i have been statin the opposite . i have quite clearly stated that i find it was a great accomplishment and a marvelous achievement by netherton in general that it could field 7 reserve team players and still manage to beat a team who has set themselves a high target of finishin 3/4/5 in there first season in the prem .

now thats not bein cocky i just thought i would congratulate my fellow team memebers in a nice performance by winnin 6-3 seen as we were probably big underdogs for that game . i personally think u will beat 1 of the top teams as with cups etc anythin can happen . now is that such a bad comment about the match to make ??

thank you lee for ur observations , i feel yes we did battle hard and maybe did deserve to win purely based on effort and the fact we let 4-2 slip too easily . but just statin really that i think u have a good side and that were happy for the 3 points and glad u maybe had a off day . although 120 mins before on a sat made my legs feel a little fatigued lol .
think with bret and a few of the others attackin u will always create chances . dont u think it will be an interstin league??

Interesting!! Think a couple of people are in their own little bubbles!!

Lets put things into some sort of order

1.Bauer will finish bottom 3 but they are poor and although they will stay up and hopefully progress next year they will get some beating along the way!!
2. Netherton want to win the league - None of this cup stuff! The league means you are the best simple as!! Stop sitting on the fence penguin!!
3. JNE/252 are desperate to win the Northants as majority of their side were unlucky with BNE a few years back (when bannie got beat in the air by a midget) and feel it is there time! Hopefully so for Shakies sake and grey hair!!
4. All teams have people who are cock sure in their team and NeverRon (i like that) are no different (abbas, scotcher). Nothing wrong with it and infact I like it as shows presence and confidence in yourself and team mates.
5. Matt - Please stick to singing and roulette!! ha ha

Good luck to all in whatever you are trying to achieve and enjoy it along the way!! JNE/BNE were great times for me and miss it like mad!!

There is nothing wrong at all with being a bit cocky/confident about your team, someone needs to be. But dont be cocky and then say oh I didnt really mean it, I meant something else - thats what makes people look like idiots and people lose respect for them. So what if you lose or dont win the league, someone needs to be build confidence in the team. Sean you have done well mate to get where you have. What kept us going was the great atmosphere between the lads, when I was there anyway. Sean, keep the belief in your team going, they are a great bunch of guys, and will go further. Be gracious in defeat and you will keep respect.

Davey, We are most gracious in defeat and always have been mate, We applauded the Netherton lads at the end and in the pub afterwards, I personally spoke to their manager and thanked him for the game and invited him for food back at the pub also, same well wishes for the Lord Westwood boys when we threw it away in the dying seconds last weekend, Handshakes and due respect paid after the final whistle, SSPIO whupped us pre-season also and it was the same then - handshakes and well wishes all round, same at Oundle when Pauls lads turned us over....

Perhaps those not being very gracious are the ones that are on here either fishing (haha, yes me too at times!) or worse the ones gloating and pointing fault with our set-up/efforts etc when the facts are it was just a few, ok a fair few, individual errors that perhaps gifted them points against us, which is obviously something we'll have to learn from etc...

EMAP are definately gracious in defeat, no problems there. Like I said great bunch of lads. Everyone back at the pub from both sides, the way it should always be.

BOTN, nothing wrong with or questioned about your set up. I've said all along you've done very well to get this far, together as a bunch of laads, good atmosphere. I would question your blame in individual errors however as I do believe that to improve at this level you should improve fitness and decrease fouls. I also believe the latter will come after the former is done. But hey, believe what you want..makes no difference to me?!

Sandford:"But dont be cocky and then say oh I didnt really mean it, I meant something else - thats what makes people look like idiots and people lose respect for them"

Sums it all up perfectly. Perhaps I shouldn't have tarnished all Bauer with the same brush, and have already retracted that. Sean, you've predicted 4th so stand behind it, dont change your mind and say you were messing about, just like Sandford says. For what its worth my advice remains the same if you wish to achieve these ambitions.

The thing I like most about Bauer is that it is a club and is run propperly. It certainly wont be folding when the going gets tough like so many teams of recent years have.

Foggy. Netherton would love to win the FIFA world cup, but we're clearly not going to. Would love to win the Lottery but almost certainly wont. Yes we'd love to win the league but we realise we are simply not good enough for it, so we just hope to have another good season.

As for singing. I'm dreadful at that too.

Loving the banter lads....
Matt when predicting 4th on here I was clearly fishing...
Have a look at the ET for our true reflection on what this season is about for us - http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sundayfootball/Spotlight-on-the-Sunday-Morning.4460752.jp
As we've said all along, avoiding a bottom 3 finish would be good and then try to build from there...

Regards errors, when a keeper gives 2 pens away and another 1 or 2 goals from crazy kicking all in 40 mins of madness to let a 3-1 lead slip, then it has little to do with fitness and more to do with a rush of blood and poor decision making in the heat of the game, that will improve as we become more experienced within the Prem... I felt for the lad as he left the changing rooms very downhearted, he'll learn and come back from it I'm sure!
We had 1 player go off injured at HT following a foul on him and another with cronic 'erther kits' leave the field at HT, again nowt to do with fitness and more to do with circumstances against us...

I would say the fouls issue you raise is an interesting point, the ones we conceded in the 2nd half, were simply a result of frustration at watching 3 pens given away and our lead conceded, dont forget Netherton also conceded 2 goals and almost a 3rd from giving needless free kicks, in particular when you were losing, seems nobody likes losing is what you can put a lot of it down too?

bloody hell guys... why not go and watch him play and talk to him directly instead of having a debate about the poor lad online - he doesnt even come on here to offer his opinion on any of it...

Ferdy has impressed us with his attitude and ability but it's early days for him, I'd say he's easily good enough for P'Boro Prem (Saturdays) but that's just my opinion, he's training with PNS and signed to Whittlesey so fingers crossed for the lad...

Bauer- certainly wsnt having a pop at him asked a question. I for 1 think he is good enough for Peterborough Prem

23-09-2008, 11:50
Number 9, your questions are cool, but overall there is a debate about a lad who's new to the area and not put a foot wrong and he's not online himself to answer a lot of the debate, bit unfair really as he's not talked himself up at all...
In fact he didn't even mentioned the Homeless World Cup thing to any of us at all, the ET found out and asked me to ask him if it were true, when I asked him he was very humble about it and said he just wants to play and improve if/where possible.

23-09-2008, 12:32
yeah think you are a lil biased to be fair. Fernand is not in the same league as scotcher, and scotcher struggles to score at UCL level. He's no where near as good as kingy or steady. I would be surprised to see him at UCL. If he does suceed then fairplay to him, he can def play a bit, but I think as said above prem is about as good as he can really hope for,

Sean. Are you saying that you wouldn't improve by getting fitter and therefore giving away less fouls?

interesting........

lol. god I missed this banter over pre season! lol

Back of the Net
23-09-2008, 12:38
Everyone would improve if they were fitter mate and until you're working out 24/7 and have your diet completely in order then every team can improve, all I was pointing out is the fouls we conceded only crept in after seeing a 3-1 lead given away by giving away stupid penalties and then frustration crept in which is to be expected... As I said mate, your lads conceded more than your fair share of freekicks in the 1st half when you were losing and 2 cost you goals with another in the 2nd half hitting the post, I just put it down to lads not enjoying losing and having the odd kick etc, you won the 1st half in fouls count and we walked the 2nd half would be my assesment..

23-09-2008, 12:45
I dont remember any of our boys being booked for hacking down a player whose pace and skill had just mugged them off?
I remember it happening twice in the first half for you? Not just the second half. Just my oppinion. I think you would do much better if you improved your fitness. your oppinion is that its not an issue. time will tell. Good luk against frattelli's . I'm gonna go for Fratellis 4 - 2 FC baur. I think you will always score a couple but your defensive frailities will be shown up again.

Anyway squabling over a thruppence here. I dont think I'm gonna get too many more nibbles from the nibbler.

bbbbrrrap!

23-09-2008, 12:55
bloody hell Matt you talk some sh*te... you nibble away and then try and say others are at it...
2nd goal you conceded was from a foul on our lad that mugged your right midfielder or right back and I think your man was was booked for it, if not he should have been as it was a disgraceful challenge.. 2nd half and your centre back hacked our forward down and we hit the post from the resulting free kick, very lucky to avoid a card... inbetween those 2 stand out fouls I recall Reg speaking to numerous Netherton lads for numerous 1st half fouls...
If you want the banter mate it's all good, but you let yourself down by talking like a clown as you're taking the bait and arguing the **** as much as the next person...

landing net busted now.... gonna have to get it repaired for Sneeks and co later in the week... ta rah...

Fat Rabbit was legendary for that goal, we all braced ourselves as he hit the deck, the Windmill reported tremours... you're right that was the 2nd goal, I meant our 3rd goal - stand corrected... and then we hit the post shortly after following another foul

A degree in calculus, and football in the same thread. This topic is going all over the place! Do you often get the chance to combine the two? :nwy:
By the way, I know of a few teams with more than a couple of swots in their ranks, so you may be making a couple of assumptions on your "Smarty Pants" ranking in local football!

23-09-2008, 16:39
Sean, I think you should be pleased everyone is discussing one of your players in a positive light, it means they have noticed him for a start.
As to UCL or Prem, in my humble opinion prem would be about right for him, UCL a step too far.
As for you Ross, behave this is a good read.
As for the things that have been said here about Bauer, most of it should be taken as a compliment and the advice taken onboard, it does not mean you have to act on it, but any guidence and advice must be of benefit no matter where it comes from and there is no better place than people you have played against.

Raph as for there being no defensive frailties with you at the back that kind of depends if you are doing your Rio impression or not.....

Admin
23-09-2008, 16:41
Moe, your educated retort does have founding . . . although my Rio impression derives from whether or not I have been saucy the night before. This weekend I have made myself a promise that Saturday night will not involved drink or ladies. (Well, not a lot of drink and any ladies that I didn't know before Saturday).

2. you are going out saturday night even if you do have all the right intentions.

a long season to go yet .... nothin is won in the first few weeks i guess . glad to see the thread open again . all i was doin was makin some valid points about our reserve team doin us proud in the prem and talkin about our tight game against hampton, i go to work , 9 hrs later everyone is callin people idiots and my thread was closed ...

so who are the teams playin this week ? any tasty games? have to say sunday was a lovely day .

We are away in the Northants cup against Heyford Utd, which is a trek as they are based near Daventry!!! In the Prem I think Netherton & Fratelli will maintain their 100% records this weekend against Powerleague & Bauer & Westwood will get back to winning ways against Mail. Good luck to all teams in county cup action this weekend.

lol been watching this with interest and never ever post but just cant resist any longer, FC bauer you were pony and were only in the game beacause of our own shoddy peformance, once you had ****ed us off and we found our selves 3 - 1 down lets be honest now you didnt really touch the ball after that did you. you have two good players your centre midfielders both busy and can both pick a pass every body else is extremely joey average but none the less kept going even when we were ripping you to peices at 6 - 3.

your man on the wing could play in the pboro prem possibly but ucl to be fair to the lad not in a month of sundays pal!

if your wondering who i am i was the ginger in the middle who threaded more passes threw your back four than youv'e had hot dinners which says it all cause my bread and butter is usually full back.

there we go please feel free to nibble lol

sorry sean. We are working on him. He's a bit "bull in a china shop" with his banter. needs to add finesse to his fishing before he catches any real big ones.

So about this most intelligent claim.

7 Honours Degrees in our starting 11 for the reserves mascurading as firsts on Sunday against Bauer. Any improvements?

I love the "I was the ginger" comment. Wouldn't it have been a better idea to say "I was the number 6" or "the lad who had a half decent game in centre midfield", or "the lad who got booked" etc. You have made it sound like we would only remember you because you are ginger, when it appears, in your own opinion, that you stand out from the crowd for your far more memorable qualities ie your ability to destroy teams with your nuclear warhead precision like passing ability and your sense of humility.

Back from hols. Believe I did say that this was a season too early for Bauer to be promoted but we would give it our best shot. Having been previously involved with the Prem I had told our lads that if we continued to make the mistakes and give the ball away like we did did in Div 1 we would be punished. Wasn't at the Netherton game but am surprised to hear the opinion that fitness let us down, perhaps more a case of hangovers ? don't know wasn't there but give us time we will do our utmost to put it right.
