I have been meaning to pose this one for some time now because it is really starting to jive my ass.

Why is it so difficult to book a pitch at short notice in the P'boro area. The best examples I can give are that Werrington and Bushfield need 48 hrs notice and will not accept payment over the phone. Also my recent experiences of trying to find a pitch (because the manor is flooded !!) have made me realise that there are plenty of pitches available but no way of contacting a groundsman.

Personally I think that we would have a lot fewer games called off if we had better organisation of the council pitches available i.e. Werrington, Bushfield, Lawson Ave, Ringwood, Bretton Woods and there are many more.

Bottom line is when all you want is for someone to unlock the changing rooms and sweep up after, why is it so difficult.

CAFC- Think that you wanna be making that call already as i have just walked down the manor and they need a minor miracle to get them games on and playable- frozen solid

To be honest. I wouldn't have thought any games will go ahead this weekend.

Well number 9 let's hope the all the games are off sunday as we have a Cambs County Cup qtr final on Sunday morning and with over half the team dancing with the bear and the other half fighting it we may struggle.

Pitches aren't too bad in Boro today. I reckon the PM Sat games will be okay, but Sun AM will be doubtful.

interestingly the pitches mentioned are council pitches, do they not want any much needed revenue!!??

surely the way forward would be some kind of partnership with the peterborough FA and the council to run the council owned pitches? at least the interests of the tax paying footballers/managers etc in the city would be dealt with in a better manor.

CAFC

I agree on the partnership. It needs some serious communication between those that administrate local football and those that supply the facilities.

Does anyone have any ideas what the 48 hrs notice is all about or how you go about booking pitches at places like Bretton Woods or Lawson Ave.

Anyway, back to the pitches.

Does anyone play at Bretton Woods or Lawson Ave anymore. Are there any other facilities that are not utilised.

On sunday mornings a lot of games are played at Brettonwoods, and Lawson avenue is used by Farcet.

All pitch bookings are done by someone on the committee for sunday fixtures. Teams normally play at the same venue but a few teams will move around depending on pitch availability.

Pitch bookings need to be either made or cancelled by lunch time on Friday. They are then charged to the PSMFL who in turn pass on the charge to the teams who required the pitch.

I believe the Friday cut off is for 1) the admin involved in booking the pitch and invoicing the correct people and 2) to ensure details are sent to the groundsman by close of play friday for whats requried that weekend.

Certainly on sunday most venues get used throughout the season. Heres the ones i know i've sent a referee too.

Bushfields, Brettonwoods, Brookside, PSL, Chestnut Avenue, Lawson avenue, fulbridge road, werrington, the Grange, daimer avenue yaxley, Warmington, Manor Leisure, Baston, thorney and Greenfields in sawtry

Can anyone else think of any others?

Longueville School used to rent their pitches out, not bad changing rooms either, contact the school directly for info, as they handle it themselves (or used too)..

Woodlands in Castor, is that still available for footy on Sundays? used to be the best venue around.

"how many clubs have you played for mate?

played for 5 teams held a place 4 so the answer to your question would be 1!!!!

but if you are saying i have played for 5 teams and could not hold a place in any then the answer would be 5!!!

so really i think your a true muppett, who not only cant spell but cant do maths either because the answer you wanted was 0 to try make me look silly!! but again you have proven your class a dunce!!!:bby::clap2:

are they not Council pitches but they allow Netherton to 'use' them? think we had this discussion on here before didn't we?

CAFC

So is there one point of contact for the council pitches ?

It would seem that the Sunday set up may have a better grasp on pitches than Saturdays ! I still think it is a bit of a mystery as to who is pulling the strings.

For instance the 'council' pitches at the Manor are £40 where as the 'council' pitches at Bushfiels are £50. What are the prices at the Grange, Lawson Ave or any of the Schools ?

48hrs for admin ha ha. I can appreciate the groundsman needs to know that he has nets to put up, so would need a bit of notice but my argument was that all we want you to do is unlock the changing rooms, we will supply and put up our own nets, so tell me again why I can't have a pitch for this afternoon ? I have paid you £50 cash and it means that you have to get up from behind your desk and unlock the changing rooms for us or send one of your minions.

CAFC think there is a lady called Elaine Geary at the PBoro City Council who deals with it all (Tel. 747474 they will put you through, think she is based at the indoor swimming pool centre - the impression I have got in the past). Hope it helps mate.

The Manor comes under Cambs or Fenland Council, but the Peterborough ones are with the City Council; hence price variances.

You are right Lee, Elaine Geary covers bookings for all council pitches and very helpful. Her direct dial number is 01733 452643 think she only works mornings though.

SSPIO, SSPIO Res and Powerleague AFC share the two pitches at Stanground . . . which I may add have failed to provide adequate showering facilities for the past three fixtures.

Raph- We bugged Stanground on a weekly basis about the shocking showers and they did nothing for the 4 or 5 years we were playing there. In the end the majority of us used to go over to powerleague as they were'nt bothered. The only time anything got done with the showers was when we threatened to hold back money, and even that was a quick fix that lasted 5 minutes.
