Its gotta be Woodston Vs JNE surely Matt!!!

There is going to be some sublime football being played on a pitch of this quality in such good conditions!! :scr:

Won 11.1 yesterday and to b fair could have been 20!! but fiar play to woodston for never giving up. Feel the league should do something as gonna lose teams and people if league carries on just don't know what yet - any suggestions.

No game this week but with Netherton playing Westwood this could be a good week for us and most JNE lads will be down cheering on the draw!!

the only thing I can think of is to drop one of the cups , and make the league bigger. The way it is if you lose a couple of games there is nothing to play for? a bigger prem would surely mean more competition throughout the seaspon? or is that not what you meant JNE? what do you think the problem is?

would be quite a novel idea to introduce a play-off system in the leagues which i'm sure would be a first at this level and keep things interesting for most teams throughout most of the season. i know this wouldn't help the prem much but it'd be a good system should the leagues be cut and made bigger. i suppose a relegation play-off system in the prem would encourage the lower placed teams to keep going rather than just playing the season out.

maybe use league positions as a ranking system for which cup competition you would be entered in the season after? cant really see much to improve things on sunday mornings other than making the leagues bigger. i just think people cant be bothered when they get up on a sunday morning and just choose to let their sides down-especially if its cold and wet outside! i think due to this not as many people have the enthusiasm for sunday morning football anymore at all levels.

i dont think getting games called off at short notice due to no referee or when you make the effort to get up and get to the pitch to find you dont have a game due to no referee helps at all. i think the referee shortage is having a disastrous impact on the sunday morning league .

better organization and more referees would boost peoples enthusiasm and encourage more teams to enter which would help build a league with bigger, more competitive divisions.

i think its shocking that only 10 or so years ago there were 2 separate sunday morning leagues in this area with many divisions in each and now look what we have!

Dont think making the leagues any bigger would help, as without sounding patronising to any other teams, there would still be the big devide between the top 4/5 teams and the rest.

It may work in the lower leagues however as JB pointed out???

Dropping a cup is no option I think Matt.Cups are the type of games that can produce upsets and make things a lot more interesting for some teams.

wouldn't like to see the cups dropped myself. just thinking a bigger league wouldn't mean you were in a relegation battle if you lose 3 games? if there were 11 or 12 teams per league, would have more to play for in a year?

I think bigger leagues would work, we currently have 9 teams in each league, with the big 3 or 4 clubs in the Prem it means that the other teams have very little to play for once they've lost 3 or 4 games and then you lose interest - it's the same for the leagues below also.
We're lucky enough to be in a lower league that can still be won by all but the bottom 2 (I think!) but I see other leagues already have clear favourites and teams with nothing to play for....
Of course the big 3 or 4 would still remain but if you had say 11 or 12 teams in the league you'd increase the chances of having better teams in your league that would take points from them and therefore increase the chance of it being a more open and tightly fought league, I'm sure McCains, Fratelli, Limetree and maybe Lord Burghley would more than hold their own in the Prem and open the title up a little, they would also attract better players and therefore help raise the standard of local footy?

Someone mentioned play-offs... I cant see that working, the PSMFL decide each year who goes up and who stays where etc, it is very contentious and they do get it wrong at times but it has to be that way because players move around so much - you suddenly get a previously rubbish 4th or 3rd div side full of Prem players and there should be a system to notice this and move them up a league or 2 regardless of where they finished the season before - it helps combat Pot Hunters!

Last year I put to the PSMFL that we should have 4 leagues of 11 teams and I'm sure a lot of other Sunday managers/teams were suggesting the same but it was ignored as they claimed not having the refs for the games which didn't make sense to me as there'd still be exactly the same amount of games per week to ref? perhaps the length of season would increase but I'd be all for that....

Been thinking about this since yesterday and believe that I could have a possible solution although some great ideas so far

As per what Rob windle used to do, here goes -

You start off with 12/14 teams - Teams play each other once, after that the league is split in 2 (u do the maths). Then they will all play each other once in the appropriate leagues with the previous results carrying over and there would be 2 league winners as such. :soo:

The bottom of the 2 leagues would be where the relegation comes from but you still have the chance of winning the mini league there in as well!!

Cups would be open to all as at present and so still the chance of an upset !!!
Just an idea but would spice things up and make it more interesting!! :soo:

Yeh like that idea Foggs. It then gives another incentive for the lower teams to still play for something if results havent gone their way.

I know in Rugby league they have a novel format.
They still have a league system in place to play for with an overall champion but then they turn the comp into a playoff system which leads to a grand final. The fixtures are then determined by where you finished in the league standing ie;1st Vs 10th,2nd Vs 9th,3rd Vs 8th,4th Vs 7th and 5th Vs 6th.
So it then benefits you to still do as well as possible over the whole season to get you an easier route to the final when it comes to playoffs......
(Hope that makes sense)

How about a Battle Royale....

End of season see's a tag-team style melee down at Chestnut Ave, each team sends 5 of their double hard lads onto the field to face 5 of the opposition, last man standing takes the win - straight knockout with every team from every league invited to contend for the Peterborough Battle Royale knockout trophy...

I'd pay £2 to watch that!

hopefuly we can somehow get this weekends games on as we have a cup quater final in one of the northants cups, and if the game gets called off two weeks in a row we have to travel to them nxt week carnt see how that works bit unfair as we dont control the weather. and its not likely that the weather is any better there
