View Full Version : Local Football Website Design

Hi Guys,
It looks like my playing days are over, but as I want to still be involved somehow in the local game I thought I would combine both what I do in my day to day job with my love for the game.

I am setting up a new project offering local football teams a free website design and build, which would be ready for the new season, the only cost being in keeping the websites consistently up to date on a weekly basis. So hosting will be FREE and the website design and build will be FREE, there will be just a small charge each week for running and maintaining and updating the website (the equivalent to less than £1 per player per team each week!) as I will obviously have to do this in my spare time so not to affect my day to day job!
I am not naive enough to think that every club will be interested in this as some will already have sites, use other free software or simply not want one! My experience of free software to build websites with Joe Bloggs updating the site themselves is no better than bad; hence the idea for this service, if you are interested in a professional looking, up-to-date website please PM myself or Bratts for further details. I am looking in to linking the sites in to this forum through rss feeds and also a page setup on here specifically for individual teams to generate further interest in what is an already successful forum – but that will obviously be down to Ross and he may have some further ideas anyway.

Once (well if) I get 10 orders I will create a kind of online raffle (crazy I know) and one team from the ten orders will get their site and updates absolutely free for the first year.

I will look to post a link to an example site in the not too distant future (work and time permitting!)

If it takes off and I find myself with no spare time I would look to train anyone interested in to helping maintain the sites and yes they would get paid.

Thanks for your time if you made it to this point of the post without falling asleep, hope to be in touch with further updates/examples when I get the time!

Cheers

Slim

P.S. feel free to move this post to a different area if it would be better Raph/Ross (didn't know where to put it!)

Sounds a very good idea, most clubs use clubwebsite!! Which is ok but have limited control over layout and design plus someone is forever having to up date it. Many of them are started up then left. So for me this is brilliant!

I maybe able to help if things kick off and your over loaded in time!! I'm a Graphic designer but not had time to add web design to my skills, as learning 3ds max to develop my 3D and animation skills at the mo!

Slim, i'm currently work on an xml api for the pdfl website, which from next year will be the system used by sunday morning, sunday afternoon and pfa.

If you're interested it might be possible to integrate the fixtures, results, tables etc into your sites.

msg me if you're interested.

All sounds very interesting guys, glad to see this forum is being used as it should be.

Will these fixtures etc. be available for integration into www.PST-UK.co.uk too Rabbit?

As a non-profit making site, we have been struggling time-wise to keep the details up to date.

Thanks guys, good to have some positive feedback already.

Corbz very good point about the whole club website-site, im not counting my chickens just yet but if it takes off then ive definitely noted your interest in helping/learning etc.

Rabbit - Sounds absolutely spot on, sounds perfect for the ideas I have... i was going to add that im sure Ross would be very interested as well, as i have obviously spoke to him about my plans, but obvioulsy Raph is already on the case.

I am still in the early stages of putting this together and it will depend on the interest generated as to how i pursue it, so far the only advertisement about it is on here so will see what happens and whether i advertise further... any ideas are welcomed along with any team that wants a new site :)

Shouldnt be a problem Raph.
If I can get time to complete it... there will hopefully be an iphone app ready for next season.

Dont know how many people would be interested in it.

Nice one Slim, i hope it takes off for you buddy as i said i think it a brilliant idea that clubs should back! Could bring in extra sponsorship money as clubs could have advertising space on there front pages and through out the website.

Exactly Corbz a lot of positive reasons for having a website presence these days and the basic templates will have an area specifically for including sponsors etc.

Hi guys,

Just a quick update, this has not yet generated much interest (not moaning as it may take a while to take off..if at all!) but ive not given up hope just yet, those that have shown interest i will be in touch as soon as i get enough time to develop some concepts a bit more i promise! I also have a chap working on a quote for a potential results and league generation system though its a bit of a catch 22 as this will cost a bit and without many teams may not be worth my time or investment! Any way we'll see what happens... as soon as i get a bit more spare time i hope to have some more info and examples for y'all.

Cheers

Morning!

Unfortunately my full time job has kept me from working on this quite a bit but i have managed to start helping Kings Cliffe with updating to a new website, it is in the early stages and there is still alot of info to add (but they will be doing most of this themselves) - they wanted to be able to add their own information/updates as well as archive match supports, which with this kind of layout and software they will be able to! You can see how it's developing here (you will notice a lot of info is just at the 'test' stage:

http://www.kcufc.co.uk/

Time/work permitting il look to push this kind of idea out to other clubs.

I must say well done to Ryhall for getting their club up and running. I always remember Ryhall having a local adult side and everyone associated with the club has worked hard; being justly rewarded with their current league position.

(Any danger of putting a PST link or RSS feed on your site though?)

Slim, the Kings Cliffe site looks good. I will mention your services to our club secretary.

Cheers for the kind words. Everyone at the club is excited about the start that has been made in our debut season. Hopefully it will continue!

I will look into getting a link to PST on there. I will let you know.

Thanks
