View Full Version : Make up of the leagues.

As I was away at the time of the AGM can anyone tell if the make -up of the leagues has been finalised and if so what it is. Its getting close to pre-season madness, who's staying , who's going where, who are favourites for league titles, cups, predictions and more pre-season banter. I always find this most amusing and good to liook back on during the season. How many games do you reckon you will win this season Hemps me old mate ? Mr Bolden who if anyone have you pledged your considerable talents to ? What has happened to the considerable talent that was left after the Oak folded ? I have heard rumours of where a few of the players have gone but not many.Have all my OLD MATES  re-signed for Mail ? Such a lot to talk about, lets get it started.

Hello Mick Hemps ere.. Hope your fit and raring to go this season  R.Mails gonnna have the same squad as last year give or take a cpl.. I am however looking to offload a few ageing superstars if any teams are interested? Just been told R.Mail cant afford to pay high wages this year!!!!!!!!

this is the league structure prior to the AGM - I think Parkside or Parkway may go up to the Prem and R Mail down to Div 1 and thats that - I think.

Predictions from us (EMAP) errrr Lord Burghley and Fratelli to seriously challenge the big 3 or 4 in the Prem but Netherton to nick it
We'll beat Royal Mail at least once this time  and Deeping to be a serious contender in our div along with maybe Coates and yeah go on then, EMAP also!
Div 2 Werrington Village to be in the top 3 andf the new Goldhay team to be up there too
Div 3 Angel Inn to be up there

Not heard much of the transfer merry-go-round, try to keep out of it as players swap and change every other day pre-season, I did hear that Hemps signed 4 Blackstone lads though and he should therefore stay in the Prem????

Hello Hemps ? Didn't know you could use a computer, Ageing Superstars, that could quite a few of your team  in fact you probally fall into that catergory yourself :soo: Any predictions ? Orhave you learned a bit since last season :gun:

Just to add a few pointers to the league line ups - Parkside have agreed to go into the Prem (God bless 'em), I only hope Malcolm and his boys realise the power at the top of that division - Good Luck to them.
Yaxley Horseshoes are now defunct. I understand Protelo have agreed to go into Div 1 hope they keep their noses clean up there.
I think Star were asked to go up a division but declined, Parkway want to win something so have dropped a division. I think Goldhay Rangers will be in Div 2, and Rileys Court Snooker and Cherry Tree in Div 3. I hope the committee are true to their promises and review the leagues when the squads are registered, The Tree have a reputation for finding quality somewhere in the woods. If Goldhay Utd get a position in the league that I think someone on the committee has promised them, they may have to start a little higher than the likes of NTS and co.
AFC Hampton have changed their name to THE OROFICE (sorry OFFICE), I think Ebeneezers put in a name change as well. No doubt the committee will tell us sometime or perhaps someone out there knows.......
I leave it up to you

Nice to see everyone knows what's going on :soo:
How can the commitee review the leagues when the squads are registered? there are so many if's and but's with that, everybody signs for a Sunday team if only to play when teams are short but how many who do sign actually play any games at all and who is judge and jury as to whether a player is any good or not, some of the best players I knew on a Saturday were absolute ****e on a Sunday after a drink the night before, what another load of Sunday morning commitee nonsense

Mick B
05-07-2007, 09:52
Absolutely right (again) Spec, I have personally suffered with players signing on but never seriously considering playing. Also I'm sure the Oak would have agreed what looks an unbeatable squad on paper very often doesn't work out that way. There is no way y0u can review a league on players registered, it's nonsense, it could be that some managers could withhold registrations until it is too late, but I'm sure no-one would do that :soo: As for the Saturday night drink situation, I think the vast majority of Sunday players, and quite a few managers have fallen into that catergory once or twice at least. You mentioned before Spec that you and The Right Honourable Mr. Flynn are planning a few trips, are you aware that the Wolves are at Sixfields on July 31st, it clashes with the Posh vs Birmingham so not sure.

Back of the net you are on a different planet!! All about opinions but urs clearly shows a lack of knowledge in local football

Top 3 in the prem will stay the top three with Netherton deserved favourites this year with us losing a few players and westwood unable to get a settled side!! Racing will be strong if they get a side out every week (doubt it) and burghley will be strong at home but not away!!

As for the rest - Hempo, will have a decent team and you may well beat them but the team to beat is Deeping who most definitely should be in the prem - hey simon?

Office will be strong due to the amount of superstars they have (others words not mine as nice blokes playing with there mates in my eyes) and will push for cups and the league

To be honest - Sundays lost it way completely and with this possibly being JNE last year and maybe a few other teams I know of considering finishing, the committee and players really need to do something to stop the current demise - reduce in fees would possibly be a start :soo:

Back of the Net
05-07-2007, 11:15
hang on a minute JNE - I know nothing???
Read my post again and then read yours....

I clearly say the top 3 or 4 in the prem will be there again and Netherton to nick it, oh and look - you say exactly the same
I also say Deeping will be a force in the 1st div and oh look, you say the same...
So i guess we're from the same planet eh??

I did throw in that Fratelli and Lord Burghley may challenge the big 3 but of course they've got their work cut out :blh:
Anyway I believe we play you boys Sunday 19th in a friendly so you can feel free to put me straight on who's going to win what over a beer afterwards mate.

06-07-2007, 07:11
If you lot fought the commitee as much as you fight amongst yourselves I am sure you would have a league to be proud of!!
Tommy, Mick I am up for the sixfields trip, it's a Tuesday night but I think we might have trouble persuading Flynny from going to see his beloved Brum playing Posh

well its good too see the leagues all sorted out now after all the hoo harr n now we can look forward to football bein the winner.

netherton favourites?! lol dont make me laugh . we have never n will never be favourites . we put up a fight if we turn up on the day and battle hard till the end . thats what netherton will always be about .

jne lost a few but have able replacements , lord westwood will be up there n wit other teams in the league up for there first season in the prem im sure some points will be spread about somewhere

good luck all

Mick B
08-07-2007, 21:16
So who have JNE lost and who are their able replacements ? Is Dave Beeny playing for Netherton ? Very difficult to make predictions without knowing squads but I expect JNE, Netherton, Lord Westwood (if they can get a settled side) to be up there challenging. I think Lord Burghley and McCains could upset a few teams. I hear 252 will be strong but then I've heard that before :soo: All in all could be very interesting. I guess I would make JNE favourites.

JNE
09-07-2007, 07:34
Morning all

Love it eddie - posh boys playing down there chances!!

Mick, JNE have lost Tyler, nipper, ja Bannie, Jamie graham, Mickey graham, A.bannie. harbs and lee ayres. Only replacements I know of are Ian wytch, Duane rankin anf grigas!! So as you can see quite a few gone and only 3 come in, We will be strong but hard to see us being as successful as last year - Northants county cup the target !!

Mick B
09-07-2007, 08:14
Some quality players lost there. Arron didn't play last season if I remember correctly and Lee Harbour was injured more often than not. Has Mickey retired, shame if he has I have always been a fan and have in the past tried to sign him. Have you lost Jamie just for the duration of his ban ? Tyler gone to 252 , nipper too ? Got some quality replacements. Still fancy JNE for the league.

09-07-2007, 13:09
We play JNE in a friendly Sunday 19th Aug..
I'm glad (from an EMAP FC point of view) that we wont have to face some of those players, quality players and they'll be missed... I would make Netherton slight favourites but things change rapidly with players moving etc so it could be Westwood next week and back to JNE the week after...

EMAP FC training kicked off yesterday - half decent turnout seeing as we had 6 or 7 regulars either working or on holiday...
Any lads wanting to train with us PM me on here or turn up 10.20am Bushfields this coming Sunday.

JNE
09-07-2007, 13:27
True mick we have lost some quality players but with Ja Bannie actually staying!! Sorry Ja :soo: we still have the main body of our back 4!!

Both myself, seth and bainsey are going to play between us due to other commitments and also family commitments! but with Browny and also grigas and wytchy we have a excellent midfield

Upfront, Duane is a great signing (if signed) and also still got super wilder (when sober) and jun No9 lee ayres so all not bad. Mickey I believe is going to help out so still fancy us to win something - hopefully the county cup and retain the league . :gun:

Looking forward to a good season and a bit more competition and not the big three as they are known - Emap, see you on the 19th although manchester derby so might not be there!!

Hard to win something even harder to do it again and so we MUST prove the doubters wrong - Again!!

Mick B
09-07-2007, 14:28
So who might be the Doubters then Foggy ? :soo: With that squad you should be up there competing, still my favourites. Come on then Eddie who have Netherton signed ? Was I right about Beeney ?By the way message for Spec and Tommy F, am on the wagon for a little while so will volunteer to drive on 31st, am also still of the fags Spec, should prove to be a cheaper night than you expected

JNE
10-07-2007, 08:32
Just a few people mick who doubt out players mental strenght and then we had our best season ever on a sunday (despite the oak)

Also some of the same players helped PSL have a great season also - Like i said though harder to repeat the feat which is what we are aiming for!!

Come on bainsey - where else you get food like ours on a sunday!! Also, you wanna see randall get nut-megged every week don't you?? :soo:

If your working then still sign and play when you can - believe this could be JNE last season anyway!!

spec
10-07-2007, 10:43
OH go on then Mick you can drive, leave about 9.00am if thats OK
It still won't be any cheaper for me Mick, have you forgotten already who else is coming

Foggy, you still haven't got that much to beat locally anyway, think the Northants cup might be beyond you though.

JNE
10-07-2007, 11:01
There's a doubter mick!

No seriously, spec, for once :snt: you are right in that p'boro sunday morning not that strong anymore however still gotta do it!! As for northants - We should have done better last year but had an off day in quarters and lost in final 2 years before!!

Could be our last go and determind to give it everything!! With the team we got we are good enough but have to wait and see! After xmas (if still in it) with Jamie and Duane upfront and browny, bainsey (if plays) and Danny Wilder we are good enough to beat anyone!!

Happy days :pty:

Mick B
10-07-2007, 12:06
I thought Tommy was on salads and diet tango these days or have I been misinformed ? Hope you achieve County Cup Foggy, I always like to see Peterborough sides do well. As usual you need to have some of your stars in the right frame of mind :pty2: If you can sweet talk Bainsey, keep Danny sober and survive till Jamie is back then I think you have a chance, some people might say that may be too many ifs, I hope their wrong.

mail to win it all day long with scarletts second. sean emap i think will be fourth with limetree third. deeping would be a better side if they took it more seriously but they prefer to have a laugh(fair play).

Back of the Net
11-02-2008, 16:47
hahaha nice try Moe, who do you play for then mate?
We're 3rd at present with games in hand on Limetree and no-one below us can catch us with games in hand etc...
But I agree it will be a really tough run in for all concerned, the top 4 or 5 teams can (and no doubt will) all take points from each other in the run-in! I think the top 2 look nailed on to be Limetree and Mail though?

richie
11-02-2008, 16:52
no confidence sean! we have to play you lot and mail once, the rest we should win, i fancy us against emap though but to beat mail is probably a tall order. will give it a good shot all the same.

Back of the Net
11-02-2008, 16:57
what makes you think you'll beat us away when you couldn't at home mate? it was a tight game though so it will be a tough one for both teams...
We gotta play Mail again and Limetree this Sunday but I fully expect the top 4 or 5 teams to drop points in the run in, it'll make it interesting for sure..
If you fancy backing your prediction up with a bet I'll go up to £50 with you that Scarletts don't finish 2nd or 1st??

richie
11-02-2008, 17:06
yeah she told me mate. you and sean have serious gambling problems. i think we can beat you because we have been playing better since the last meeting and we made a few stupid errors that game, not to mention your first goal being way offside. anyway you beat us and got the points which is cool but i just think we can beat emap(not saying it will be easy or that its definate)

We've improved no end since we beat you lot also so it should make for an interesting game - doubt I'll have to do much of a team talk as I'll be printing your comments off for the lads to read hahaha... Beer afterwards whatever the outcome!
It's been a great league to compete in so far, some quality teams and individuals near the top!
Hopefully now we've signed a keeper our centre back can come out of goal and we'll improve some more now!!!

richie
11-02-2008, 17:22
of course its harder once your out on the pitch matey(not that youwould know ha) but i like to be confident and not expect to lose as im sure you can relate to. defo have a beer afterwards and might let you win the footie card this time. oh and its your round:beer:

We all expect to win but based on games played so far I think you'll have to agree we have the edge on you slightly, I see Starkey is banging em in for Netherton Res, has he translated those goals to Scarletts too? will be tough for us if he has...
Not worried about your defence as you'll no doubt gift us another 3 or 4 hahahaha...

11-02-2008, 17:48
a lot of foreign lads who come over here say that though mate. hope its true for you boys all the same.does he live in dogsthorpe? if so surely its closer to the the scarletts??? ha

moe
11-02-2008, 18:00
Hi, All, who I play for? now that will be telling,
In all honesty, league finish will be Mail, Limetree, Scarletts then Emap.
Saying that it really does depend what side turns up for Scarletts, they are either brilliant or p.poor lack of consistancy.
And we will be mid table ish...

richie
11-02-2008, 18:05
this season though moe we have had a fairly good turn out for most games, in the past we havent though and thats probably why your thinking that mate. what was the score when we played you boys?

Admin
11-02-2008, 18:11
He did, our new 'keeper has a winners medal from their third division, plus a team photo and a call-up the the National Side when he was 19. He is 28 now though.

moe
11-02-2008, 18:12
No that is not what I mean.
Scarletts either come out and play quality football and can be brilliant or they just do not get going at all and lose to sides that they should have buried.
Emap are far more consistant in the way they play as are Mail and limetree.
I cannot remember the score, but we were lucky not to get hammered.

richie
11-02-2008, 18:13
still must be quite good i would imagine

thanks Moe - we were a bottom of the table in Div 5 side when I took over and we've had the same core of players since - as a result we usually play fairly consistantly (odd blip of course!).. I hear what yo're saying about Scarletts, they do have the potential to really turn it on but with the characters they have sometimes they perform as individuals and let teams back at them... We smashed them at their place (theres your hook Richie).
Hopefully next season we'll improve again as we've added 2 or 3 youngsters this year who we are hoping will realise their potential and really improve us as a club, plus a new striker who if he continues to stay fit will be one of the better around our local leagues without a doubt - in my opinion anyway!!! not to mention 2 new centre backs that in all honesty could prove to be some of the best around too!!! if we can keep it together as a squad I'm well looking forward to the new Bauer FC!!!

richie
11-02-2008, 21:28
hahaha not biting sean, yep you smashed us 6-5 or 5-4 mate.well done. sounds like you will have a decent suad if all oes to plan. certain individuals wont be needed (or wanted)

certain individuals still wanted mate!!
it was a 5-4 smashing I think, goal in the minute won it for us, cracking game!!

Mick B
12-02-2008, 08:26
About time I added my twopence worth, I fancy us to finish above Scarletts but as most people have already said will be very difficult and we have to be on top of our game. Full marks to Starkey for turning his team round, he has added some good lads to his squad and I believe like us then can give most teams a good game. I really admire the way he has turned round the terrible discipline problem Scarletts had.Of course they still get a bit excited (Steve) but thats all part of the game.I fancy our chances when we play Scarletts, I think we can expose their lack of pace at the back:str: As Sean has already said we are pleased with the season so far, we are still building and trying things, we have completely changed somethings and are always looking to improve. Raph I thought our keeper was a Latvian under 21 international ? Look forward to Sunday and when we meet Scarletts again. Jamie we will not be giving you that kind of room and time again.:clap:In my humble opinion I think Mail will win it but I'm not sure if they will want to go up, Limetree look favourites to finish second and i fancy us to finish third. Looking for a big improvement next season lads.

moe
12-02-2008, 10:01
Mail will want to go up I think, if only the older players that may want to give it one last go. from what I have seen they would probably just about hold their own, but as I said most are knocking on a bit so time is against them.

Mick B

I noticed that your location states near retirement, that's exactly the location of a few of the Mail players, that's why I think they might not want to go up. Some of Mails elder statesmen have won all there is to win on Sunday mornings and I don't think they want the hassle of the prem. Don't get me wrong they are more than capable of playing in the Prem and I would have them like a shot but I don't think that they are really bothered about giving it one last shot. I do not include the little magician Hemps in that catergory.

just one of them bottom or lower division sunday teams full of pot hunters? ha ha just a guess, as i don't know who plays for them, but there always seems to be at least one bottom div team full of ucl/sat prem players who are playing with their mates

Not really mate, All veterans like your good self, Hempson, Chris Crotwell, Joe Bailey, Daz Paling occasionally, Ian Locke occasionally and a few postmen. OOPS forgot since the demise of McCains Teddy Paling as well. Average age must be well up with those lads. This is Div 1, just below the prem and most of those lads have won all there is to win on Sundays so no point in pot hunting. Don't forget The Gibbs bros are playing for Limetree in the same league.

The only thing I have won in Peterborough is runners up medals in cup competitions although they are a nice alternative to nothing I suppose. Finishing third in the league for the last two seasons really hurts though. and silly results in October/November are usually our undoing for not going on and winning the league or coming second.

As for retirement, not just yet Raph. Bit of work to do on weight/fitness which has co-incided with my first season whilst being a dad so you will have to keep waiting to get anywhere near my appearances record for EMAP! I must be at least 25 games or so ahead of you at the moment.

you must be close to 100 appearances mate? we'll have to work it our sometime, it's good to have 5 or 6 lads close to that amount of appearances for us - shows a lot of loyalty and team spirit.... must be all that food we lay on after the games hahaha!

Wasn't talking about you retiring mate . . . I was showing a bit of respect for a change and grouping you with the "League's elder statesmen"

Plus it's more like 50 ahead of me . . . especially with my discplinary record the past two seasons and injury before that!

I must definately be getting close and it would be good to find out when game 100 would arrive. 5 half years ago it was 2-2 against Fenland Police, fast forward to the present day and we are giving the Jubilee a game. Have it!
