    Role: Full-Time Technical Skills Coach

    Responsible to: Head of Youth
    Shrewsbury Town Football Club is looking to recruit a Technical Skills Coach who will be responsible for co-ordinating, developing and enhancing the Centre of Excellence Programme for the emerging young talent at the Club. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone with enthusiasm, knowledge and a commitment to the development of elite young football players.

    Skills Coach – Job Description

    • Adopt and implement the FA’s recently introduced skills programme to develop the Centre of Excellence (including Development Centres) 5-11 year old players.
    • Provide appropriate coaching and self-help tools to learn the basic skills and techniques that are needed to reach full potential.
    • Have a knowledge of appropriate technique and skill development practices by creating a positive learning environment in accordance with Module 1 of the FA’s Level 3 Coaching Award.
    • Use an innovative and creative approach to learning by following the Club’s existing technical programme
    • Liaise with local schools and the Club’s Development Centres/FITC Programme to develop the 5-11 year olds
    • Enthuse and be able to communicate positively with young people
    • Carry out administrative duties as and when required to ensure the 5-11 programme is organised.
    • Meet administration duties and deadlines as required
    • Communicate with the Club’s Development Centres on a monthly basis to see if it is on track and where possible improvements can be made (e.g. are the coaches up to standard, are the players up to standard, etc).
    • Keep up to date with the latest news/research regarding how best to develop young players
    • Have an ability to lead and develop a small team

    • Be committed to the clubs CPD and make every effort to enhance personal skills and qualifications to meet the Centres needs.
    • Manage/prioritise workloads
    • Be prepared to work unsocial hours
    • Be aware of how children develop and how this may affect performance and Talent Identification
    • Develop individual focus/ball manipulation as individual technique is the foundation on which all other parts of the game should be built.
    • Know the requirement and process for signing players (e.g. trial periods, when to release etc).
    Additional responsibilities
    • Ability to coach scholars if required on a daily basis
    • Be committed and skilled to coach any age group
    • Supervise evening schoolboy programme
    • Use all aspects of current qualifications to cover other areas of Centre of Excellence staff team
    • Age group coach U9-16

    Qualifications / Experience and Skills

    The appropriate candidate must possess the following:

    · UEFA B Licence, plus obtain FA Youth Modules 1, 2 & 3
    · Experience of coaching elite young players within an Academy or Centre of Excellence Programme.
    · Knowledge and experience of all aspects of ‘Long Term Player Development’.
    · Working knowledge of the current youth development programmes.
    · Posses a clean current driving license.
    · Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    · Have a flexible approach to working hours and an understanding of the needs and demands of young elite players.

    Due to the requirements of this role the successful applicant will undergo a screening process that will include an Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) disclosure.
