The most prestiges cup in Sunday pm football we are told being 49 years old and made of solid silver!!!!!


This game was contested by Fletton and Real Whittlesey who had both already contested cup finals of there own already this season with Whittlesey having 1 in the bag and Fletton still seething from a last minute Ak goal to beat them meaning this was there only chance of silver wear this season.
Before the game even began Whittlesy were delt a major blow when Sub striker Ian Adu was injured in the warm up so in stepped physio for the day Shaun Harley to take his place.

The boys were told not to conceed an early goal as Russ seemed to think they waould go all out to get one. So the game started with Whittlesey setteling in the quickest and with only 2 mins on the clock Tin Tin had the easy job of placing the ball in after a Micky Burch flick on 1-0 Real.
Fletton seemed to panic going 1-0 down and Whittlesey had all the possesion but then from no were the Fletton winger broke free crossed the ball in and Kev Brisley smartly put the ball in the net with the 2 Whittlesey centre halves looking at each other. 1-1 5 mins gone and what a start for the fans.
This seem to give Fletton some confidence and 5 mins later from a Whittlesey corner Fletton broke clear and Andy Shaw in the Whitt defence made a hash of his clearnce giving it straight to the Fletton midfielder who sent Kev Brisley clear and he expertly put Fletton 2-1 ahead with a crisp finish into the corner of the net.
Whittlesey seem to then get the wake up call and started to press with Chris Brigham and Tin tin pulling the strings in midfield and Ash Moore and steve shaw putting themselves about much more.
Then a slick passing move by whitt found Maby on the edge of the box who with a deft flick found Chris Brigham free on the edge of the area and the coolest man on the park half volleyed the ball into the corner of the net to send the Whittlesey fans and bench wild. 2-2 20 mins gone what a final!!!
This seem to impact both teams and the 1st half withered away with no real chances . Only thing to note was Tin Tin and Ash Moore picked up injuries which was not a good sign.!!!

2nd half and it was much like the rest of the 1st chances few and far between with Whittlesey doing all the pushing with no end result oh and a great Run by Matt Ferris from his own half taking on 6 fletton players going clean thru on goal only to run out of steam!! Subs were made with Ash being replaced by Liam Gallagcher and Tin Tin by Andy Littledyke early on which probably had a huge effect on Whittlesey's game as Tin Tin being our best player by a mile this season and top goal scorer.
So extra time and the players were starting to suffer especially the ones who already played 4 games in one week making this 5!!!!!!
So 1st half extra time and Fletton started with a bang a ball coming in from a throw in and Martin Fox smashing the ball home 3-2 and the Fletton bench and fans went mad!!! Then that sinking feeling started to sink in as we pressed for the equiliser that we were going to be very open and so it happened Fletton broke clear and Kev Brisley was sent put thru on goal to put Fletton 4-2 up!! But wait a flag the lino is flagging ref!! Goal disallowed and game on again!!
Then with 1 min to go before the 2nd half of extra time the move of the game. A passing move from the whitt back line sent Maby clear down the right who skinned his def inside out got to the by line and cut it back for none other than Micky Burch to squeeze it home making it 3-3 and sending us all into a frenzy! (note when Micky scored its the fastest i have ever seen him run when running to our dugout to celebrate ).
2nd half extra time and only noteable chance was ehen Maby was sent clear only for the ball to get caught between his legs and miss the chance. Then with the game going to pens on came Shaun Harley a clear tactica move by the management giving the English reputation to bottle theese lol.
So pens it was.!!
The manager had that horrid task of selecting the 1st 5 and only 4 of us stepped forward Shaun Harley, Micky Burch , Liam Gallagcher and Alan Anker the Gk so Matt Ferris was nominated to take 1 aswell. Asthe most confident i was selected to go 1st.
Shaun Harley steps up and smashes the ball into the roof of the net keeper no chance and interesting to see how many peeps thought i was not going to score!!
Kev Brisley for Fletton steps up and would you belive it Anker saves it 1-0
Having no pressure Matt Ferris cooley steps up and sends the keeper the wrong way 2-0 Whitt
Fletton captain makes it 2-1
Micky Burch steps up and cooley sends the Ball into the far corner 3-1 Whitt and now the pressure is on Fletton.
Then Anker becomes a hero saving to be fair a very very poor pen but still gotta guess the right way 3-1 Whitt and Liam Gallagcher has the job and he did not let us down
4-1 Whitt and the celebrations began!!!

Russell Fitzjohn has done amazing here and deserves this big time!!
For us 4 more games and win them all then the treble is ours but with Fletton to play twice i somehow think that is going to be some challange!!!
