Hot on the heels of a successful first year in BAFL 1, the Peterborough Saxons open their doors this month in an attempt to discover exciting new talent as they aim to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2010 season.

The Saxon Gathering takes place every November, attracting an average of 50 new faces to the club and with a flourishing set up in place offering contact football to anyone aged 16 plus, there has never been a better opportunity to emulate your NFL heroes and step onto the gridiron.

With players ranging from 8 to 25 stone, all shapes and sizes are welcomed. An athletic background is desirable, but a commitment to personal fitness is essential if you wish to cope with the physical demands of the sport.

Newcomers will be put through their paces via a series of time trials, fitness and skills assessments which will aid both the participant and the coaching staff to identify a clear pathway into the sport and with opportunities available both on and off the field, Club Chairman Mark Kerr is clear to point out that it isn’t just prospective players who should come along.

“The club cannot operate without volunteers and whatever your skill set, there are ways to contribute. From filling the water bottles, fundraising, coaching, admin or investment, the list is endless but if you just want to score touchdowns and make bone crunching tackles, that’s great too”
