BREAKING NEWS 4.00pm: Peterborough United striker Aaron Mclean has handed in an official transfer request.
The club have reluctantly agreed to try and sell Mclean in the January transfer window. He will only be sold if Posh receive a substantial fee plus add ons.
Mclean became disllusioned with life at London Road after being dropped from the Championship match at Newcastle last month.
Mclean said: "I was made club captain and then dropped for the biggest game of my career at Newcastle United. After the game I spoke with the chairman about how upset I was.
"I did not hand in a transfer request at this time as he asked me to back him. I decided again to try and get on with things as the chairman, staff and supporters have been very dear to my heart, but I just can't get over the way I was treated and now feel these factors, my age and my family commitments make it the right time to move clubs."
What are your thoughts on this event? It looks like he will be on his way in January; is this preparation for an inevitable drop to League 1 for The Posh?
for me if posh get 5-6 million for him take it and buy 3 or 4 good championship players that will get them out of the drop zone, Maclean and Mackail Smith are very similar so a diff approach might be good for the side.
Tell all the tims ye no Rangers are gonna get 4 in a row!!! Bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy lalalalalala
One Exodus in, shortly followed by a mass one out... McLean just the start I reckon.
Rats from a sinking ship, all the big players will need to jump to keep their careers/salary on the rise!
If we get anything over a Million for him I'll be surprised and that will be swallowed up by Fat Fry and co immediately, we'll get 2 youngsters you've never heard of in Jan and that will be that.
We're just not a Championship club as yet, gates of 8k and wage bills below what - £2k/£4k a week suggest a mediocre Div 1 club for now, no shame in that if they can build slowly...
I honestly do hope they survive this term as I do support them, but it looks bad from what's going on lately?
5-6mill for McLean? He has requested a transfer, so will likely be £750k up front, with the rest on appearance up to maximum £1.5mill and potentially a sell-on clause . . . no more than that for a striker at the bottom of the championship who has handed in a request to his club.
In my opinion from the start of this season just staying up would be a great achievement for them, they were brilliant last season but any posh fan thinking they were gonna achieve much else in what is an extremely hard league this year must have a screw loose!
As for McLean...5m?!?!?! the whole team isn't worth that, what a spoilt brat, dropped once, sulks and then wants a transfer, i 'd have him out the door asap... i sincereley hope they do stay up with players that fight for their team to do it, that kind of arrogance isn't gonna help them.
reading the recent chairmans interview in the ET, it looks like the party is over, i think that he could be skint and the future looks bad for posh. i think the money is no longer there and the club wil be sold, i bet that mr fry has covered this in some kind of contract and could end up once again owner on the cheap along with a few quid.maybe he should have become a bank manager? if posh are to make it all the way to the top then they need a mega rich oil shiek, but not from dubai. i have never followd posh, but always want them to do well.in these times its every man for himself. think that before the end of the season posh will become a selling club once more.fergie left because he smelt a rat. he could be right.
When your life style relies on the cash Mcclean is receiving from posh and there is every chance they will get relegated you really cant blame him for wanting to offer himself to a higher more stable club.
Just think if you worked in an office for a company you knew was in financial crisis but another firm offers you a place with more stability and better chance of a pay rise... you take it.
I hope Posh pull thru this but it seems to be a reoccuring theme for the POSH!!!
Hope you are not right Carefree...but you probably are.
That is a good way of putting Harbs i guess, but will they be in crisis if they pull through and don't get relegated ( a big ask i know)? And has he really played well enough this season for anyone to come in with a 'decent' offer... guess we will find out after xmas.
