I think all clubs aim to win the league but it's process that tKes time. When at Whittlesey Reserves first year finishing 3rd from bottom the plan was always the bigger picture that if we stuck together and achieved progression year on year eventually we would win it! Which we did!

That's my point really Mick, you didn't realistically aim to win it in your first season did you? I was mainly talking about shorter term ambitions rather than over a few seasons.

So Harbs are you saying the other 50% of teams need not bother turning up? I'm not saying they shouldn't turn up every week believing they have a chance of winning the game, but if you use last year as an example say someone from crowland or Stamford bels came on here and said they were going to win the prem, everybody would rip them to shreds.

It all depends what category you personally put teams in doesnt it.
Are you saying if i had come on this site 4 seasons ago when i first joined Eye who were rock bottom of division 2 and said were going to win this league this season I would have got ripped to shreds? probably, but guess what... we did it.
The point is its all about ambition, We also had a **** pre season and poeple had us to finish mid table.
I certainly am not saying the other teams shouldnt bother but pre season, teams-regardless of where they finish the year before strengthen their teams because they want to win the league. Its only after bad starts teams find it hard to claw their way back but a team YOU personally dont think can win the league have a brilliant start to a season who is to say theu are not going to win the league as more players look to play for them.

Good luck Raph, 3rd for your boys this season I think...

You have some good players there Kevin. I played with Mark at PSL in the Prem for a bit, he's a really nice guy and threat in the middle of the park or up top.

Safehands, you may think that it will be difficult to win the league, but the reason that these other teams may be not performing well (you mentioned Bels and Crowland last season) would be be that they've lost half the battle by resigning themselves to defeat before they've even played.

Browett, a realistic target (not just an aspiration) for any local football club should be to move up the divisions. Like Al said, you don't get paid in to play in the PDFL, so no point in just "going through the motions" every week.

Harbs; I wouldn't be happy with 3rd, but it'd be progress. If we get a good cup run, then it'll set us up for next season. BTW, I agree on Ketton being the strongest contender too.

it wasn't aimed at you or inter raph, just pointing out that everybody WANTS to be successful, its just not always realistic.

same could have been said about pinchbeck over the last 15 seasons. i think you will find that my posts are about me as are raph's and what we expect each season now, im to old to just want to win the odd game, if i can only put a side together that has no chance, then i wouldnt bother. darren munton at bourne has moved up to manager of the 1st team from the reserves and he believed he has a chance to win ucl 1 before the start that is ha. bourne have no chance at all of promotion, even if they won the league every season from now until the end of the decade, due to ground grading.

Raph was pretty general in his statement. I'm not knocking any individual's ambitions, just trying to say that not everybody's would be the same.

I get the feeling that you're going to disagree with me no matter what I say al, so I'll leave it at that!

Everyone has their own opinion and if we were to all agree on everything, it would make this a pretty boring forum and much like the lovefest that it became a year or two ago . . . BORING!

It's good that we seem to have competitive representation on here from every division now.

not at all safehands, we all have a difference of opinion, im just debating mate. i'll agree that pinchbeck have to be favs to win the prem. but things change with managers moving on or with a new one arriving, including ambitions. i had alot of time for tony wells, but he stepped sideways, as he never could really build a team to challenge, it didnt help with moulton pinching your best lads, but tony moving on has given you boys a great chance to renew the past. if you post on here my friend it will always end with others who will disagree partly.

Why are Pinchbeck considered favourites?? we have the same team that we have had for the previous two seasons!!! -with the exception of TWO players!! i hope you are correct with your prediction 'carefree' and i'm flattered by the tag favourites! However like i've said before, it's a long season with many ups and downs, comings and goings, so lets wait and see what the table looks come april and may!
