i have stayed out of this arguement as i have been asked by macca not to get involved as he had spoken to to alex on the phone and via a few txts and sorted it with him, but with a few insinuations that i was in some way involved i'd like to clear a few things up. a few months back in the kings cliffe changing room on a sunday morning most of my lads were, as you do, chatting about their saturday games. in conversation tom hart was asked whether he was starting, to which he replied he was. as he didn't seem over enthusistic about actually starting he was asked what the problem was if he was starting. he replied with the fact that he just wasn't enjoying it as much as he had in previous seasons. at this point macca said "if you fancy a change i'd love to have you at huntingdon". toms reply was that he didn't really want to quit the side as he had, as i do, a lot of love for kings cliffe as it is a great club. he also stated the distance issue to get to huntingdon and the fact that he'd started training with bourne for some extra fitness, and with him living near stamford they would be a much closer option should he decide to make a move. he did say though that if he hadn't signed anywhere else he would be happy to help out if we were struggling for midweek games or when cliffe didn't have a fixture (as a lot of local players do, and vice versa). Then earlier this week we had a defensive crisis and desperately needed an extra centre half, so naturally macca got in touch with tom to see if he could help out, which as we all know he did. As for the game itself, it was one of the best atmospheres and team spirits that i have ever experienced, and i've been in a "joyous" westwood changing room many times! after the game, tom said he couldn't remember the last time he'd enjoyed a game of football so much and said he wanted to play all the time. macca basically told tom that if he was sure he'd have to get in touch with alex and let him know that he was leaving, just as i did when i left, and then macca would do the official approach out of courtesy. This is where i see the problems stemming from as macca shouldn't have put the match report up which clearly meantions tom's excellent game, before tom had been in touch with alex and the neccessary approaches made. for me macca was just over zealous, as after a lot of hard work we seemed to have got things just right on the pitch and macca was proud of his side and wanted share that, what the site is for.
at the end of the day mistakes were made in the order of proceedings and all macca is really guilty of is being over eager, which i'm sure is something we're all guilty of when something comes to fruition, such as our performance on wed night. i'm sure all parties will learn from this.
Some good reading here - Gino that's quality advice lol....
Mick is right, just do what you think would be right for other teams/managers/clubs/players etc and all will generally turn out well, the rule is ok but it doesn't tell you how other people will feel if you action something that effect them and their club etc.
As a manager you suddenly effect lots of others by what you do and say, I always tried to bear that in mind whenever I was bringing in players or letting them go elsewhere and I do think the better managers out there have this in mind - Al, Gino etc
I think macca's learnt his lesson and has said as much, stupid thing to do but as Al said he did something similar and it made him better as a result as he then made double sure he did things the proper way afterwards.
But Macca if all else fails then Gino and I will give you a lift to Alex and I'll have a £5 on Alex in the 1st 2 mins![]()
Jb - Thats totall rubish mate and you know it!! You clearly state where you see the problem is that Macca put a match report on after he played! How is that the start of thee problem. The fact Macca chose to play him without a courtesy call to Al is where the problem is!
All it took was 1 phone call, not out odf the rules but out of respect!! What dont you people get??????
" Al its Macca just a quick 1 mate im gonna play 1 of your lads for me mid week as wee short, i know im allowed but im letting you know!"
Al then has the heads up to ring his player and say" look i know your helping him out But if you play you wont be able to play for me after! We have have a big finally to the season coming up and you are crucial! Lets do it together! BLA BLA BLA"
The player then doesnt play and all is left to close season!!
Macca, has admmitted he is wrong and apologised, alex said in an early post above apology accepted as such, i am sur macca will learn from this ( as some of us who have done a similar thing have done ), there will be so many different opinions on this subject ( which is good ) and you can look at this situation from so many diff angles, as harsh as it may or may not sound, whats done is done, hopefully macca n alex will resolve any little fallouts over this situation ( lifes too short ) and can both now carry on with there respective seasons and ' GET THE JOB DONE ' as they say.
looking for that next challenge
lol lads, I think everyone gets it (apart from dumbo - sorry JB mate) and Macca has learnt a lesson as he's said...
Hopefully others reading it will pick up some ettiquette also!!
