Default premier league ... 7 teams. discuss

    Macca Sports
yo, not been on here in a while but just thought id leave a message to see what people think

having a sunday morning prem consisting of 7 teams (12 games) is and lets be nice here bad planning on all accounts. we all know at least 1 team will fold during the season in a league and it just so happened to be the mighty lord westwood this year 1 week before the season started. not ideal but it happened.

the league decided to put teams into 5 divisions, when blatently it would of made far more sense to have 4 bigger divisions divisions of say 9/10 then when one drops out you go down to 8/9.

as of which i have a squad of players all wanting to play football sunday morning raring to go at the start of september. we will be into october this sunday having played a total of 1 game. now i do appriciate that not everyweek u can play because of cups etc but thier wasnt 1 prem game played this week. heres a fact. we have drew one league game and had one cancelled which we will/should get the points for.

played 1 , 10 to go . with a few bad cup runs we will be finished by christmas.

feel free to discuss . to the credit of sunday mornings i think the top 2 divisions are extreamly competitve with no easy games anywhere. so its got nothing to do with sunday morning in decline as i think there are some top new teams and actually think its on its way up again . i just feel some ridiculous decisions have deprived people who want to play sunday mornings some extra games of football.

While I understand your frustrations i think the problems are a lot deeper than than you have mentioned above.
On paper yes it would have made more sense to perhaps promote the div1 sides to the prem or even create a sub league or all divisions and the top 5-6 get promoted to the prem, but how many teams refused to go into the prem knowing they stand a better chance of success in the lower divisions.
Im willing to bet the majority as they will stand less chance of any sort of glory competing against teams that are settled prem sides.
The problem with forcing them to play in that division wouldnt just be that some would possibly fold before the start of the season but those teams not able to cope at that next step up losing when they would have been winning games in the lower division, then the posibility of squad disruption and before you know it the liklehood of that team then folding.

Standard is poor and people do not want to play sundays because of it and also the fact that they can't be bothered.

I think the standard is pretty good at the moment to be fair (in our division anyway). We have some good players in our divison like Karl Down, Fernand Bass, Daryl Todd, Lee Calitri, Mark Paul, Kenny Martin, Gary Pacey and John Regan.

We have a game scheduled every week until Christmas and have not had a week off yet. The Hunts Cup is a Champions League format this year, which gives you a few more matches I think.

Our division is split two ways, with some very good sides (Ultras, Parkside, Coopers, West Town, Sports Lounge) and some less than good teams who still give a decent account of themselves.

I know it's frustrating Eddie, but my only suggestion to you is to try a little harder in the Cup and you won't have less games!

Its really hard making that prem competitive and a big league, if you put 2 or 3 up there and they're not ready you destroy the club as the lads walk away after getting tonked each week without hope of winning, however I do agree that it's really annoying for those in the prem to have 12 league games a season after paying their dues etc....
Looking at the leagues I would say you could perhaps have had the top 2 from div one up there this year but thats about it and even then one of those was promoted from Div 2 last year so cant really bump them into the prem straight away?

I think next season it should be easier (providing nobody else folds) for the PSMFL to balance the leagues and I would hope they could finally get an even number of teams in each division, otherwise the teams with less in their league should be able to put forward a pro-rata refund case based on league games played compared to others in leagues with more teams (pounds per game/service type of thing), would hate to see it come to that but I know I'd consider it if my club was continually being short changed with no game plan to sort it out.

Overall though I think we all agree the Sunday Morning leagues are finally becoming more competitive again and thats in part down to the great work put in by Fred and the rest on the PSMFL, refs for every game, communication MUCH better and league structure almost there with balanced teams in each etc...

ill be sure to tell my boys to work harder. its quite hard when you get drawn in the second round against a team of st margrets calliber, being the holders will be a tough ask but will give it a go. match will be on 23rd of this month so if your at a loose end feel free to come and watch.

yeah i agree things are defo looking up with the hardwork the psmfl put in and refs everyweek help. not after refunds as such botn but just want games. although an interesting point anyway.

maybe the top 2 in div 1 should of gone up but thats for powers higher than me to decide.....prem dec look like the surprise team, look a real decent side to try and beat.

Just want to say what great sportsmanship Parkway were on sunday especially Craig Heath. I would like 2 think most assistant referees would give a goal if you deem it to have crossed the line but there may be a few people who wouldnt have .

They could always have a Split league where the top 4 all play each other again to settle the league that then takes the season up to 20 gamesand obviously the bottom sides do the same to sort that end out.
    Just a thought.
