Northants FA U18 open up our Cup campaign at Sielby Rangers versus Worcestershire FA
on Saturday, ko 1400
Hunts FA have the joy of travelling to St Austell to play Cornwall FA, who we beat 7-3 last season also in the Second Round. At least the hosts are very hospitable.
Good luck to both Counties, and match report on the NFA match on Monday.
Northants FA U18 2 WorcestershireFA U18 3
Good luck to Worcs in the next Round. Overall they deserved their win, but, the last ten minutes were not for the faint of heart!
Worcs one up, bad defending, we equalise, Worcs 2-1 bad defending, and at half time we reckon if we can hold them for the first 20 mins of the second half, we can win this. Wrongggggggggggggggggg!
We do not even attempt to "hold them". We go forward, leave gaps, and quickly are 3-1 down, and facing inglorious Cup exit.
Wonder goal by our No 10 wakes us up, and in the last ten minutes, we have six corners, hit the post, Worcs keeper makes three tremendous saves, but we cannot grab the equaliser.
Fine refereeing performance, excellent facilities at Sielby Rangers. Only ourselves to blame.
Saving ourselves for the League?!
I do not yet know how Hunts got on.
Just been advised that Hunts also lost 2-0 away at St Austell against Cornwall FA
Roll on the Midland Counties League derby, on Sunday 20th November, Hunts v Northants, for local bragging rights!!.
Nick
Where is this game being played on Sunday
Also surprised that there was only one Peterborough lad in the Northants squad last time - perhaps that is why they lost

Hi Chris
Apologies, very remiss of me! Yaxley FC, kick off 1400
Sadly less than one handful of Peterborough players not opting to play for Hunts FA., appeared at the preseason Trials. 1 player made the squad for our first 2 matches. Andy Buckle is still with us, but as a Blackstones FC player this season.
Our manager, coaching staff, and myself do keep a close interest in local based, available players, but to date, we have found none better than our existing squad.
When you consider that each Youth match played attracts Scouts from at least 6 Pro Clubs
there is a serious incentive for players to come to our Trials, and try to force their way into the Squad.
Sorry Mr Titman but i can not agree with with what you have said there about players not being good enough yet pns u18's are the northants over all league winners last year and currentlly top there leauge this season and that there is not one player there??? When from what i have seen and said about the northants team is a side that has very adverage players all from the north side of the A14. May be you or your scouts need to look a little harder or speak to the managers there to put some talent that way??
I would suggest that Netherton have the odd player that would qualify too as good enough. Years ago it was always difficult to get Peterborough players in the Northants squad a bit them and us but their loss in the end and things are no different it would seem.
Are you one of the scouts Nick
Chris
The problem, with the exception of PNS last year, has been persuading local Clubs to send their players to our trials. Come tomorrow and see for yourself what we have; in fact persuade your colleagues to do so as well, then show both myself and our Management team what we have missed locally. We would appreciate this, and if wrong, only too pleased to say so.
Surprisingly, we have a rather barren squad this season; last years was last 8 of the FA Youth Cup, etc, but U18 is similar to Acadamies/Schools of Excellence-feast or famine.
The second problem is that players can choose in our area, who they wish to play for, Hunts or ourselves, and often want to play with their mates in Hunts. No probs with that.
I watched Netherton twice last season, at both U17 and U18 level, and once this season, but really there is not a lot to consider from.
The PNS squad that did so magnificently last season in the County League and Cup did provide 3 players to our squad. As previously stated we have one this year.
I would be delighted if you would put forward names to ourselves to look at, as I am always very frustrated that the East end of the county genrally is not represented, but if Clubs do not forward names and send players to our preseason Trials and matches, there is only so much I can do locally.

Clubs are sometimes very protective of their players and feel if they go to county trials some other club will come and tap them up and it does happen.
Also depends where you hold the trials - were any in Peterborough. When I was assistant manager of Hunts u18 in late 80s I would approach clubs regarding players if I felt they were good enough. Sometimes you may rate a player better than they do or the other way round.
Will try to make it tomorrow
Sorry but I find that a poor excuse and also quite lazy you expect managers just to give u a call and say here are my best players take them see what you think whilst they go out and try and find replacements. why do you or the county manager go visit clubs in the Peterborough area just not go to a game could go out and look or may be talk to the managers of the clubs like i previously said??? or may be arrange friendlies with some of the clubs in the area so you get a good look at players that way against your so called Superior squad.
Final Score from Sunday
Match abandoned in the 53rd minute due to fog. Score 0-0 and we did miss a penalty.
Thanks for all your advice as to how we should "find" players; bottom line is that selection is made by Management alone, and if Clubs do not want to profer their players, there is nothing more we can do.
