Boooooooooooooo, gutted
Do you know if the Div 3 Match between Ramsey Res v Whittlesey Res was also cancelled?
ramsey ressies beat whittlesey ressies 4-0. why was this game played with the 1st team game called off due to not being able to raise a team? surely the res game should have been called off and the 1st team should have called up res players into the 1st team line up?
Technically yes Al thats what should happen but we all know most Ressie sides nowadays are run totally seperate to the 1st's, one or 2 players swap between the sides with no problem but trying to switch a whole side or more than say 3 or 4 players just causes rows in-house with most clubs and it's just not practical without a few days notice.
It's crap when it happens to you and you aint got a game but you have to feel for Whittlesey and also not punish their reserves by throwing them to a prem side to get battered I suppose.
Anyone know whats happening with them anyway, was shocked to hear they cant field 11 players.
What thats very strange expect the league to be strict with the late notice of this, A BIG FINE? LOSE THE GAME?? POINTS DEDUCTED? Sorry state there at the minute not good times to a club that promised so much!!
I don't suppose it helped that half the team was on the lash in halo last night! They will get hauled over the coals big time after their res's fielded a side.
Hi all, just to add my 5 Euros because I have had to cancel a game in the past and was told by the league that I must first cancel a reserve team match before I could cancel a first team match on the same day:
PDFL RULE 10 F States:
Home and Away matches shall be played. In the event of a club failing to keep its engagement the Board shall have thepower to inflict a fine, deduct points from the defaulting club, award the points from the match in question to the opponents, order the defaulting club to pay any expenses incurred by the opponents or otherwise deal with them except the award ofgoals.
Notwithstanding the foregoing home and away provision, the Board shall have power to order a match to be played on aneutral ground or on the opponent’s ground if they satisfied that such action is warranted by the circumstances.
Any Club unable to fulfil a fixture must, without delay, give notice to the Fixtures/Referee Director, the Secretary of theopposing Club and the match officials. Any Club failing to comply shall be dealt with by the Board who may inflict a fine. AnyClub with more than one team in the competition shall always fulfil its fixture, within the competition, in the following order ofprecedence: ‐ First Team, Reserve Team, ‘A’ Team.
Notice of postponement of any match must be given without delay by the postponing Club. Such notice must be givenimmediately by the Club to the (Fixtures) Secretary, the Competition Referees/Facilities Director, the Secretary of the opposingClub and the match officials. Any Club failing to comply shall be dealt with by the Board who may inflict any penalty it maydeem suitable, including the possibility of 3 points being deducted.
etc. etc. etc.
In other words, on a given match day you cannot cancel a first team game without cancelling the reserve team game first
Then why the hell did Whittlesey reserves play???
What time did you get official confirmation they wouldnt be playing you Gino?
11.46 am Saturday on my phone
not being bitter but they will get wat they deserve
Back of the sofaTechnically yes Al thats what should happen but we all know most Ressie sides nowadays are run totally seperate to the 1st's, one or 2 players swap between the sides with no problem but trying to switch a whole side or more than say 3 or 4 players just causes rows in-house with most clubs and it's just not practical without a few days notice.

You reap what you sow. In other words thats bollox.
Similar situation happened two seasons ago in the Cambs Senior A fixture when Great Paxton called off their game with Wisbech Town Reserves, at Wisbech. Paxton still wished to play a Reserve fixture on the same day.
Cambs Fixture Secretary, Phil Mitcham, advised them that they had to make up the team with Reserves and call off their Ressie Fixture.
Great Paxton refused to do this, and Cambs FA then called off their Reserve game, and awarded the points for that match to their opponents, and also deducted 3 points from the First Team and fined them quite heavily for not fulfilling. The Senior A game had to be played at a later date, as they did not just award games in the Top 3 Divisions of the Cambs League.
I remember a situation last season with Ramsey when they were struggling to fill three teams on a weekly basis, the league allowed them to postpone a Reserve Team match yet play an A Team match on the same day (contradictory to Rule 10 F), only because they applied for a special dispensation. The league let them have a period of some two to four weeks to get their house in order so to speak.
However, in the case of Whittlesey v Eye, unless Whittlesey have done the same then I would expect the disciplinary committee to take a dim view of what occurred yesterday:
As a result of the above I would expect Eye to be given 3 points for the cancelled match, Whittlesey First team to be docked 3 points, Whittlesey Reserves to be docked 1 point plus monetary penalties to the club for breaking Rule 10F, plus referee to be fully reimbursed for having no match to preside over.
- Whittlesey did not apply six weeks in advance to postpone the fixture as Gino only got the cancellation message at 11.46 on match day;
- Whittlesey Reserves played their match on the same day, this team according to Rule 10 F should have been used to play in the first team fixture;
- According to league rules cancelled fixtures are no longer rescheduled.
Now time for the disclaimer: These are my own thoughts and do not represent the views of the Peterborough & District Football League Limited or any Team or other body associated with the league.
Thats very insightful CAFC, thanks for putting me straight lol.
Seems they are in a right mess and it's a shame really as the club has been a good one throughout the years.
Of course people will say they get what they deserve etc and maybe so, but still hate to see clubs struggle like that.
You'll defo get the points Gino.
would prefer to play the game, but any cancelled match's will be hard to fit in to the league program at anytime this season, yeah it would have been a tough game for whittlesey after noting the stiffs got bashed 4 -0 by ramsey res, but with the goal difference others have on us a 1-0 awarded game might not be reward enough for eye utd. i dont want to see big fines dished out and hopfully whittlesey won't get one, but as it stands awarding us 3 pts is the only thing to do no matter how it affects us.
It happens to us, I was playing silver jubilee reserves few years ago & 1st team couldn't get a side so we had to cancel our game & go play there game away against Ramsey.
We were not pleased as the were top league & we was struggling for a team ourselves! We lost 5-1 in the end. Think club still got huge fine
Well well how interesting this is!!!
Only 3/4 years ago young Mr Burch wanted to run the 1st team and was quite honestly shown no respect by the committee and told a quick no!!! Mr Humphries was put in charge and its no secret that the Res side and 1st team since never got on that well, the res team went on to win the Comb league under young Mickys and Mick SNRs guidance all this while the 1st team continually struggled, then due to a huge breakdown and rejection young Micky started Bluestar... now look at the sides... Whittlesey Utd are well on the way down and Bluestar are on the way up..... Its such a shame as Lee Minnet and Big Mick worked so hard years ago to establish a fantastic set up and a side that everyone feared playing (note they also won the Prem) and now they really seem to have slipped!
Tell all the tims ye no Rangers are gonna get 4 in a row!!! Bouncy bouncy bouncy bouncy lalalalalala
I take absolutely no pleasure in seeing what's happening to Whittlesey at the moment - They have a Secretary that most clubs would die for, a Chairman who came in at a relatively young age and absolutely grabbed the bull by the horns and put the club back on a sound footing, in Humpy they have a manager who I have the utmost respect for and who knows his stuff, and a core group of players, who would get into most prem teams, and who I would happily have play for me- So where is it going wrong?
Lee Minnett was the best manager, in my opinion, that Whittlesey could ever have, and I say that with no disrespect to Humpy, its just that us Fen lads are a quirky bunch and Lee was tuned into that and got the whole club behind him, I am sure that we could have got Lee to stay, perhaps at the time I didnt try hard enough .
I have to take some of the blame for whats happening now - I ran the reserves as I had always ran my teams, so wasn't the best man to have running their reserve side, but I knew that and had tried to step aside a couple of times, once for Jock and once for Ben, each time those guys did a brilliant job, in their own right, but also realised that family and work commitments have to come first and so had their own personal reasons for stepping down. Up stepped my boy, who was looking after his old man - in an ideal world he would have just been playing and doing a bit to help, I certainly would have preferred to just go and watch him play every week, but as I would expect from any son of mine he stepped up when he was needed.
What Whittlesey didn't get was someone who would tug his forelock and just be a puppet for the 1st team. Micky, who is very much his own man, has a different set of values to those and was never going to be a yes man - and it was no secret that Micky and Bassy, the Club Secretary didnt get on, but that was really just a generation thing, and I think I could have worked that out, for all his hot headiness and raw edges he would have walked through walls for the club, and if there is a failure it ws at that point, because they couldnt see it, and I couldnt convince them, and once they had got together and said at the end oif the 2009 season ( at the club's AGM to be precise) they didnt want Micky to run the Reserves any more, the die was cast - Well they know now what a mistake that was because Micky's reserve side went with him and formed Blue Star, and whatever thsoe lads might be short of they all have hearts as big as buckets - and would have, in different circumstances, been the heart and soul of the Whittlesey club for years to come.
We had a week off a few weeks back, and I went along to watch the ressies, nice bunch of lads, one or two who could play a bit, but lacking the a****** to grab a club and drag it up by its boots, and I'm afraid that attitude is whats needed there now and has to come from the top. Over to Humpy.........
Personally I hope that if the club is going through a tough time the PDFL show them the same leniency as they did to Ramsey and Alconbury earlier in the season but appreciate rules have to be applied. The thing that would gall me would be getting a call at 12:45 on a Saturday, thats just bad form and shows a complete lack of respect not only to Gino, Al and their boys but to Bassy, who I assume had to make the call. Believe me, for what he has done for Whittlesey United, he deserves far more respect than that from the Whittlesey United manager and players.
